    2016 Discovery SDV6

Looking to buy 2016 SDV6 with 175000km. I was just wondering what to look for when buying D4 with this mileage?

    Thanks
    Gus

You can’t get a steel pan for an 8 speed which is what’s in the 2016.

It's an interesting one. I'd say the key, if negotiating on price, is that cambelt service at around 180,000k. I actually bought a 2015 (2016my) 8 speed at 195,000, in part because that service had been done. If not, its due, and could easily run you $3k plus or minus, depending on what is found/what else you elect to do at that point (which is sensible because you've paid for all the labour to get the body off...)

I'd also want to pore over the complete service history: has it had transmission oil changes already done? If not, check the gearchanges carefully. The 8 speed is supposedly more reliable and simpler than the older 6 speed, but the 'sealed for life' rubbish is not helpful. Ideally fluid changes at about 60k, and certainly every 100k. Mine also had several complete brake discs and rotor changes, front and rear, and upper and lower control arm changes, diff and transfer box flushes, etc.

If it's been regularly serviced by one independent, not run ragged off-road, and looks cared for, go for it at a sensible price. Mine had one careful owner, never taken off road, or towed, and had been used primarily as a long distance motorway commuter on the sunshine coast, by a non-mechanically minded owner who didn't mess with it, but just did what British Off Road recommended they do at each service. It's pretty much spotless, in stock condition, and runs /handles like a new car - I'm aiming for 500k out of it. The money saved compared to brand new is substantial, and pays for some serious TLC. At its next service I'm going to preventatively change the alternator out, because that's getting to be high milage for the original, which will be consigned to the touring spares box...

I find that an interesting one regarding the preventative changing of the alternator. I've asked my well regarded Melbourne Indi service center about doing that myself and was advised against it. They said they'd seen failures of the alternator at almost every conceivable km/age of the vehicle so if mine wasn't showing any warning signs at each service just leave it alone. My 2011 D4 has now clocked up 195k km. Food for thought.
