2012 TDV6 Oil leaks keep the car or not

    Hi all
    I have a 2012 TDV6 2.7
    200,000 kms
And now have found oil leaks that now need fixing
    - Rocket cover
    - Vacuum pump
    - And the exhaust gas thingy

Cost to repair $5.5k - $7 depending on if the exhaust gas valve needs to be replaced

I have to date fixed the
    - Coolant pipe
    - Transmission
    - Timing belts

    The questions are
    - is it time to trade the old girl in on a younger model ?
    - What else are the major fixes yet to do?

I am thinking of a 2016-7 SDV6 with say 80k on the we clock

But I have heard the SDV6 has some expensive fixes?

So thoughts stay or go ?
    And the SDV6 engine?

    Cheers & thanks
    Foz

firstly can you do any of that work yourself?

Get other quotes from independent LR shops. Those prices sound like the stealer.

I'd be inclined to fix and keep it.

I'm still doing things to my old 2007 D3, about to replace all the suspension arms and rear knuckle bushes.
    Going to tackle that myself.

None of that is difficult so don't see how they get to 5.5k plus, what is the last item, cross over pipe? If so would be the only costly item but not even 1k.

    Hi Loan rangie

The 3 items at the end I have already fixed - so money already spent (last year)

But if you mean the oil leaks
The 3rd one is the exhaust gas valve not sure which side
the mob who quoted me said that they have to pull the gearbox to get to them !???

    Seems over the top but
I dunno maybe that’s the fastest way ??

I could do the work I suppose - but don’t have a huge amount of time On my hands and I probably screw something up

    The challenge is what’s next??
If I spend the $$ am I likely to get another few years or?

Definitely do not need to touch the gearbox for egr replacement, I would blank them in any case.
Sounds like you are being royally screwed over.

I think referring to exhaust cross over pipe. Runs across back of engine.

You can disconnect drive shafts and tilt the engine and gearbox down to gain better access above the gearbox I believe.

Are you sure the oil leak is not from the oil cooler? It's about the right timing for it to be leaking, and it gets everywhere. If you were looking for a leak from below you would easily mistake it to be coming from just about anywhere.

I’ll ll get the report and put the specific words up

Still very much in two minds

$5-7k now with who knows next
    Or
    $30ish K to refresh to a 2015-16 D4 with sag 80k on the clock

The question is the SDV6 Engine is there any nasties around the 100k or 6 year mark?

If you cant do the work on the vehicle yourself,i would move it on.It isnt going to have no issues in the next few years.

A later D4 maybe the go,but they are getting on as well,no matter what the K's,and you will be in the same sort of place in a few years.
Depends on your budget,a later D4 may suit better than something new or newer,or a different brand.
Noting the 3.0L,is generally more problematic than the D4 2.7L.

We had the same decision to make,2012 D4 2.7. and moved on to a new vehicle of a different brand. After 2yrs,no regrets at all.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

There is nothing there costing 5-7k so a bit drastic moving it on, find a good indy and get a 2nd opinion. Valve cover gaskets is less than $100 in parts and a few hrs labour even for DIY, you said exhaust valve so thats EGR's and even to replace them is not much and easy enough for DIY.
