    Battery charging question

    This is a bit of a dumb question but being dumb I have to ask

    I have a traxide dual battery setup with a few alterations

    I have a relay installed so the batteries are only linked via the isolator while car running.

    One thing I did not consider when I got this done was how charge the batteries

    Prior to the relay I needed to only charge one battery and the other was charged via the isolator

    Now in my current set up I need to charge both batters Independently

    My question is, are there any issues if I charge them at the same time using two battery charges.
    I have two 5amp ctek chargers .

    Yes you can do that and it will be fine.

    Even if the isolator was on, you could still use two battery chargers with out causing any problems.

    So again, your setup is fine.

    I only need this occasionally, like today

    In the past I have just charged one battery and it has worked well via the isolator , just had not thought of this complication at the time.

    I set mine up the same way Richard, but I also added an on-off-on switch to let me manually re-energise the traxide relay when I hook up a charger (or want the system to operate as originally intended).

    One “on” position connects the earth via the relay on the ignition side (activated by the EMS fuse), and the other “on” position connects directly to earth. Plus then I can permanently isolate as well by switching to “off”.

    An additional switch is a good idea.

    Thanks for the confirmation Tim. I have been doing this occasionally for some time now, after I return from long working assignments interstate. One one occasion, the cranking battery was that flat I had to use the manual key to get in the passenger's door and pop the bonnet, and I had left the fridge running, so there was nothing left in the aux. circuit either.

    Didn't think there would be a problem with using two chargers (I have three batteries in mine - the Varta cranking battery plus the FullRiver AGM and an Engel battery pack on the Traxide system) - but it's good to have that confirmed by you.

    My usual method of connecting up chargers is via the Anderson plug under the rear bumper to charge the two Aux. batteries when needed, and then occasionally a second C-Tek charger connected direct to the positive post on the cranking battery and an earth point on the body. Has always worked without any problems for me so far.
