What LT tyres should I fit to my 2013 D4?

    G'day All,

I've just bought a 2013 Discovery 4 with 134,000 km on the clock. Most impressed with it!

It's fitted with 19" Wranglers but I while I have nothing against Wranglers, I would prefer 18" all terrain LT tyres.

On my previous two Defenders I've run BFG and Coopers tyres. But the D4 has air suspension with which I have no experience and I'm wondering if this has any impact on what tyres work best for 4wd touring.

No longer into rock crawling or so called "technical" 4WD'ing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No matter what the problem - there's a solution. You've just got to find it.

    Hello and welcome,

Plenty of tyre threads on here to read. What LT tyres should I fit to my 2013 D4?

You’ll need some 18s that can fit over the larger brakes of your model - Tuffant is your go there.

Then look at a 265/60-18 Falken WildPeak. Fantastic tyre.

I recently fitted GG AT3 255/60R19 on D4 rims to my L322. They're LI 113, not LT but seem to have a tougher case than the 255/55R19 version which is only LI 110. They have quite an open pattern for an AT that is performing well in sloppy mud. Tempe Tyres in Sydney import them and currently have stock.

I'd stick with the 19's if you don't really need the extra sidewall height.

I’ve been wondering when this size would turn up - excellent, will take a look next tyre change!

Tempe Tyres listed them as on-order shortly after I asked if they might add this D5/L405/L494 size to the list of other GG AT3 that they import. They provide the same sidewall height as 255/60R18. I swapped from 275/55R20 to get the same sidewall height and the higher load rating but 31" dia not 32". I bought 6.

I'm on my 3rd or 4th set of Bridgestone D697. Can't fault them! They have been perfect. I would\will buy another set unless someone can convince me there are better\newer tyres out there. I was almost convinced about the Falkens, but met a guy near Gibb River Rd that had a puncture. We were both travelling similar roads. Probably just luck of the draw, but!

I run BFG 265/65/18 on my D4, can't fault them, done heaps of different terrains from the Gibb and heaps of top end to SA beaches to Vic high county, performed well in all conditions and wearing well.
I think suitable pressures and driving to the conditions is more important than what factory they came from
