    Tyre Trek comments

    I'm tempted by a Tyre trek swing away carrier with 2 jerrycans and a spare wheel, which is (potentially) perfect for my off road needs when 'trailer free', and would welcome comments on its durability/practicality.

    My concern is the weight and stress on that point when thumping about off road. 2 jerrycans and a wheel is putting about 85kg of static downforce on the tow point... Any long term users here? Alternatives? One would be the Rijidij, but that stresses out to one side of the back end, and doesn't address additional fuel carriage (roof is full with a tent, and I don't want fuel up there, or inside the vehicle...).

    Grateful for any long term user thoughts - or alternatives that people would recommend...

    I don't think it is a problem as, as no different to towing something (boat, trailer, van) with a similar ball weight.

    But when towing you have at least 2 other load bearing points (wheels) sharing the strain, i wouldn't want anything more than a wheel leveraging off a hitch especially not the LR removable hitch.

    I made what turns out to be essentially one of these a number of years ago for our D3.

    A number of people were highly agitated at the thought of it, but we found it to be extremely robust and practical.

    Just stay under the limit imposed by LR for the hitch and you should be fine.
