    Second Battery Threads

    Hello,
I need to replace my yellow top second battery.
I have looked at many threads on the subject over the past 12mths and got some good ideas.
Prob is, I can't find those threads now! I only seem to be returning older threads from a decade or so ago.
I've worn out the search function so I'm probs doing something wrong.
If y'all could point me to some of those threads so I can re-read them, I'd be very appreciative, as would my waeco!

    Cheers

and this thread is helpful too: Optima D34 Yellow top or SSB DryCell HVT-50D AGM

I actually just replaced my HVT-50D with the HVT-70LD (HVT-50D just over 3 years old but car has hardly been driven and battery hardly charged so I can't really complain)

As I have a bracket mounted on my Traxide tray for my compressor outlet I couldn't be bothered taking the tray out to flatten the edge, so I cut it in situ with a Dremel. It did work but I wouldn't recommend it - stainless doesn't like to be cut

Fits nicely though. Pic below before I put the insulating terminal covers on

Fullriver DC85-12 heavy duty AGM is another option. Tight fit, but you can get it in there. I'm very happy with this battery in mine.
I have previously had two of the Optima Yellowtop batteries prematurely fail in the same duty and would not recommend them to anyone.

Just be aware, that is a DEEP CYCLE type battery.

This means it is slower to charge and should not be used for cranking the motor.

The SSB HVT batteries are cranking batteries come deep cycle.

This means they will rapid charge and this is a big benefit when you have large capacity alternators like those in D3s and D4s.

    Cheers All,
I should have mentioned that my second battery and SC80 (I think) is cabled and situated in the drivers side second battery space.
I note most seem to mount in front of the start battery. Seems similar space and access.

    Cheers

Some D4's have other gear in the aux tray hence using a tray in front of the main battery.
