D4 adjustment of rear upper tail gate striker

    Hey brains trust,

I have only recently acquired this car (d4 MY16) and the rear upper tailgate hasn’t been happy to close in what I would call a normal way. I have looked at topix and had a play at adjustment but am seeking feedback from the group as to experiences and tips from anyone who has relevant experience.

Current symptoms include not latching correctly on a normal tailgate close. Requires 1-3 spirited attempts some times.

    Thanks.

I had the same issue on mine when I got it. Adjusted the part (not sure what it's called, maybe striker?) located in the top section of the tail gate. Very easy, just pull the rubber cover and small (maybe 10mm) socket to loosen, moved slightly out. This fixed it.

Having said that, prior to this I did stuff around with the lower latch part which didn't fix it. Felt like an idiot when I looked up and saw the other part and how easy the adjustment and fix was.

When it’s too loose it will rattle when driving and be extremely annoying. Adjust in small steps up to the point it needs a firm push to shut properly. I did a test slam with the bolts just tight to allow the plate to centre then nipped them up. It’s the rubber bung that is being compressed in the jaws of the lower catch that makes it all snug and rattle free.
