    D3 V8 Entertainment System

    Evening all,

Just picked up a 2005 D3 V8 and the entertainment system is not powering up, I have checked 3 fuses that relate to the system and all are ok. Has anyone had this issue and can shed some light on the problem? Before I start ripping the dash apart.

    Thanks

    Garry

    Need a bit more detail.
Which entertainment system? Does it have the Nav screen?

My first port of call would be the "Infotainment" relay in the CJB. Should be R5 on the fuse box (R249 on the wiring diagram).

Poke fuse 57 or 58 with the car unlocked recently or ignition on and you should get 12V. If you do, then the relay is ok.

Fuse 53 is the power to the head, so check you have 12V there also. That comes from Fusible link 18 in the Engine bay via the ignition switch, but that supplies loads of things so it's not likely that.

The head unit gets constant 12V from Fuse 53 and pulls one side of the R249 relay coil to ground to power up the rest of the entertainment system (amps, Nav, RSE, whatever else you have).

    Hi Brad,

That is a very detailed description for me, thank you, just what I was looking for.

It does have the Nav screen and essentially everything above the air con knobs is dead, phone, clock, nav, info etc.

That being said the DSC park sensors and door lock buttons work.

Looks like the right hand side of the steering wheel does not work either as cant enter the settings menu either, the Mode and volume buttons obviously dont work and the |< >| must go through there before allowing me into the settings menu from the indicator stalk button

    Will go check some relays

    Thnaks again

    Evening,

Fuse 53 is OK, feeding power through

    Fusible link 18 is OK.

There is no voltage either side of Fuse 57 and 58, both fuses pass the continuity test

I have tried 3 relays (not new, from other circuits) in R5 with no power to the unit, there is voltage to 2 pins on the relay base, the bottom horizontal one and the top right vertical one so im thinking I have a few duff relays or there is a problem behind the fuse panel.

Where would I find the wiring diagram?

The wiring diagram is on the forum here somewhere (Later D3 wiring diagrams). Sounds like your head unit is duff and not pulling the relay in. You could manually bridge the relay contacts (use a couple of spade connectors on a bit of wire) to feed power to the rest of the gear, but it sounds like a head issue.

Thank you Brad, I now have the wiring diagram and makes some sense now. I will bridge the relay to see if anything happens at the weekend and post up the results

So I put a jumper in pin 3 and 5 which powered up the two fuses 57 and 58, the Nav screen came on to the Land Rover logo and stopped there.

So Brad you were correct the head unit is gone.

Will go look for one now.

    Thanks again
