I'm also an Akebono advocate. When we first got our SDV6 D4, it had genuine LR pads and discs and I was constantly cleaning the rims. The stopping effort was okay with the originals but the front discs had worn to the point of replacement. I'd heard of these Akebono pads and so with a fresh set of DBA discs on the front, both the front and rear pads were replaced with Akebono's from Rockauto (yep was over 12 mths ago before the freight costs went through the roof). The lack of dust is amazing and the stopping power/effort is better than the genuine (most likely due to the worn nature of the genuine?).
I will still pursue Akebono pads when the time comes for replacements (regardless of the expense) unless someone can prove the dust issue is not there for other manufacturers.

    Thanks for the replies!

I managed to measure the dimensions of the existing pads and on that basis have ordered TRW GDB1898 for the front and TRW GDB1632 for the rears. $70 per set delivered. If they don't fit I'll let y'all know!

I looked at Rockauto but dismissed them as they only show an LR4 engine with spark plugs... I have found that Rockauto show incorrect parts with every one of the 4 cars I work on. Gross examples: a 16" wheel that will not fit over brakes; auto transmission parts for a car that was never made with an auto ...etc.

Rockauto is great, just do your research beforehand and order what you know things to be. Never had an issue but I order what I know, not what they tell me

Same story with me, I have purchased a few things off Rockauto BUT only when I know they're correct. The D4 was only released with the petty V8 in the states (to my knowledge) but there is a lot of overlap with our D4s here. Same with my MX5 here and the equivalent Miata over there. Research is key before ordering.

I'm currently running GDB1898DTE and the equivalent rear. These are the ceramic formulation and have been brilliant braking and almost no dust.
Am currently looking for same for the next change but haven't found a supplier. Got the priors from Advanced Factors but they have not stocked for a long time.

Probably will order Akebono from Rockauto. Just look for their LR4 V8 parts in their catalog.

Yep, we have the Akebonos front and rear, ordered from RockAuto

No change to brake feel (at least, that I have noticed) though they tend to squeal when reversing. Haven't been able to solve that one just yet...

Check that they are installed the right way around, i remember theses pads only have one relief chamfer on them, and this chamfer on the face of the pad should be facing towards the direction of normal rotation IIRC. Idea being that when braking any debris between rotor and pad can fall away. If the other way, you can drag debris into the pad-rotor interface especially on sand and they can squeal. My D4 is gone so I can't check for you...
