Better rubber compound, wear smoother - less likely to become noisy as they age.
Rubber doesnt harden or crack like BFG over time and dont become slippery as time progresses (noted a significant reduction in grip with BFG as they age)

Stronger side wall and thicker - cross sectioned one of each and was surprised...


BFG was ~20yrs ago, the world standard to measure against, and still is i suppose. it wasnt the gold standard, just the benchmark.

About 15 years ago, costs seemed to impact the BFG product and something shifted

BFG KO (all terrain)
*I have plenty of customers that agree, never an issue, overall still a tough tyre.
*I find perhaps they might not balance up as good as some.
*some road noise compared to the standard.
*I find them not the greatest sand tyre as the sidewalls dont seem to flex as much as others.
*Years ago Michelin bought BFG

*they seem ok, i cant say I've had customers particularly rave about them.
*plenty of sidewall flex seem pretty good as a sand tyre.
*used to see them a lot on disco 2, they seemed a quiet tyre.

Yokohama Geolander
*I am a fan of the yokkies, great in the sand, quiet on road, long lasting.
*When customers ask me, this is what i recommend for their Defender (classic) or D4.
*they are on my Perentie, my dad's Defender, lots of customers D4s, Defenders.

Tyres are a "what brand of spark plug is the best" people stick with what they have had a good run with.

Compromotive wheels?
*While I have no idea who makes them or if they have been redesigned but back in the old crap days when green oval experience used to sprout about how they designed them I had enough customers with cracked wheels that never got replacements or struggled to get replacements that I would not recommend them.

Would these 18" RRS (genuine) rims I have behind my shed fit? I was going to put them on my L322 which currently has 20" rims. They had been on my P38A (with hubcentric rings).

I don't think they'll fit a 3.0 D4 with the larger brakes, those wheels may have been from a 2.7 model.
