As above, rotary dial is 8 speed, stick is 6, 8 speed is 3l
.....except in the case of a 2014 (maybe other years as well) XKR Jaguar!

A mate just bought one in Sydney and showed it to me. I saw the rotary dial and pronounced that it had the 8 speed auto. He said it was 6 speeds.

We almost got into a punch up (not really) until he lit up the ignition and showed me the gearchange display on the dash.

    1,2,3,4,5,6 Speeds.

    We learn something every day.

But we’re talking about Discovery’s, not Jags, or any other vehicle that comes with a ZF transmission. The 6HP28 six speed box was designed for manual selection or automatic, but was only supplied in manual form in a Discovery until they went to the 8HP box.

Thanks, am well aware of that; just thought people may be interested to know that the six speeder had a rotary dial in one application.

Probably because Landrover changed the naming at that point - it became just the Discovery.

And on Carsales you search for D4 plus Discovery/Series 4 to get the MY15 and MY16.5 cars.

And my mate has a T bar shifter on an 8spd in his supercharged 5.0 F-Type Jag.

Eventually, the 3.0 high output was rebadged SDV6. Before that, it was 3.0 TDV6.

TDV6 was always the lower output version of the V6 Discovery - be that by way of a 2.7L engine, or the lower tune 3.0

    Right Said Fred...

Attached is something posted a number of years ago by Bytemark.

    2015 & 2016 are the same specs as 2013 & 2014.

    Discovery 4 2012 MY 12 is 6 speed

    Discovery 4 2012 MY 13 is 8 speed

When advertising on Carsales if you have one version of the 2012 and you choose the other when advertising the vehicle it will cause the confusion that I think this thread relates to.

Makes me wonder how they go about the naming, as to me the other way around would make more sense as in, TDV6 Twin-turbo Diesel V6 and Single-turbo Diesel V6.
    2005 D3 TDV6 Present
    1999 D2 TD5 Gone

I'm with you! The names are always a let down. I think discovery means a journey into your wallet you never knew possible?
