After just spending $10k on my D3 to overhaul the gearbox and replace the front diff with only 210,000ks on the clock im feeling much the same..
To the OP , do you have a gap tool that has read the codes.. OR was it more a question of " if you had a gap tool ". On the D3 some of the basic suspension faults would show up on the message centre.. ie suspension slow to rise..
Being an amber light it could be many things but you could start by doing a simple test like removing the 20A suspension fuse under the bonnet and let the car sit overnight , this will stop the car from self levelling . You may be able to pin point if its a airbag leak on 1 corner or if its front or rear.
Im not sure about that year D4 but the D3 had the hitachi compressor and the cap on those would sometimes crack between the air fittings and cause issues..
A code reader would certainly help in all cases thats for sure.
Hopefully its a simple fix .

I'm surprised about the gearbox but unless i missed it i don't see a mention of it needing replacement or just a service ?
