    Hello

    Hello All,

New to the world of Land Rovers.

Been into Patrols for the last 10 years but I no longer do that style of driving and I wanted something nicer for towing. So out with a 2011 Crd Patrol and in with a 2012 D4 HSE.

Managed to steal it off my old man. He ticked every box available so it’s the 3l SDV6, compo 18’s, front and rear bar, extra fuel and e locker. So far it’s going pretty awesome.

I do have a god awful squel when cold under acceleration, which is either exhaust manifold or primary turbo related. Apparently body off, but whilst the body is off I’ll do a bit of maintenance on the hard to reach items. The front hydro bushes are going, but lucky I work between Perth and London so I can get cheaper parts like the HD replacement lower arms.

I’m hoping ( probably naively ) that at 232k I may have avoided exploding cranks and engine failures, but after the patrol I’m used to driving slowly so hopefully I can get a few years out of it before a defender appears.

Anyway thought I would say hello.

Question, I need new tyres. Toyo AT3 or Falken AT3w in 265/60/18?

I too came from Patrols but I first started with a 110 (still have it) and then got the D4. I had to do the primary turbo not long after getting it (202,000km) and touch wood only few replacements of parts with a known history of failing. Nothing else drives like these D4’s.

Welcome to the forum and the world of Landrover.

There’s plenty of excellent advice on here. Be an “active” owner, service regularly and enjoy a beautiful drive and very capable / versatile vehicle.

I'd guess and say the squeal is the accessory belt and, more specifically, the tensioner failing. If there are no error codes, then it can't be turbo or exhaust manifold losing pressure. These things are monitored like a Nasa spaceshuttle.

Enjoy the drive that is D4.

as you say, the D4 is a wonderful ride.
you may get some requests to bring parts back from the UK. haha.
    best wishes. Jeff.

    Welcome to the group.
Falkens have good reviews from others on the forum.
I went with geolander g015 LTs, have done a few thousand kms & have been good so far.

    Thanks legends.

Just back from a quick 3 night camping adventure with the family. Still can’t believe how nice this rig is to drive.

Finally got it into some sand and it’s amazing. Auto and awesome electrics make what I used to find annoying in the patrol are just a breeze.

    Love the economy too.

As for the squeal. Well it goes away when warm and of course is on the hardest place to reach on the car. No codes as far as I know. I would believe what the mechanic told me seemed to know a heap.

Re Falkens - thanks. Biggest issue is they aren’t available in LT. Coming from bigger tyres and generally plusher riding (like a boat) I’m keen to stay with LT’s for extra strength in the less voluminous sidewall.

Servicing will be every 10k for oil and filter and probably 20k for fuel filters.

Happy as to bring back parts for people. Lower HD arms are $500 for a pair - that’s half price.

By all accounts the Wildpeaks don't need an LT version.

Your noise may well be what I've just experienced and apparently quite common..... the exhaust from the 2nd turbo cracks at the flange. Does the noise come in at around 2400 rpm when the 2nd turbo comes in?

Although it'll happen when engine is hot and cold.

Yours may simply be a drive belt noise which usually disappears as it warms up.
    Check all belt adjustments.

The exhaust flange crack sounds similar to the wastegate working on a "hot" Japanese turbo boy-racer rocket car......

About a 2 hr job to replace. You can either fit a new one (as I did) or find someone competent to weld the flange.
