    Transmission fault help

Hi guys, another transmission fault issue here. Trans was rebuilt 12 months ago, just left home, transmission fault and restricted performance warnings come up, could limp back, but once stopped it seemed to not want to go into gear.

Have tried troubleshooting a bit, but wanted to se if anyone had any ideas. From reading the forum, it sounds like it is some electrical short or connection.

    Main error code is:

-U2023-86 - control module network signal calibration data - bus signal/message failure - signal is invalid (2

    Also got:

-P0852-62 - park/neutral switch input circuit - algorithm based failure - signal compare failure (28)

I also get the "lost communication with park brake module" a lot but this seems to be there whenever I do a code read.

When I look at the live values, it seems that the "gear selected" and "gear engaged" values differ (or something similar) - this is from memory, I don't have access to the car at the moment.

    Thanks for your help
    Lucas

Possibly your gear selector needs adjustment at the gearbox end.

    Highly possible.

Seeing OPs other recent posts though, it’s looking like a potential cascading issue.

irondoc, when was your battery last replaced?

As you have had the gearbox out, also check for damaged wiring or bad connections.

12 months ago. Possible, although I’d expect it would have been sooner if that was the case.

A year of life in a battery and cold weather change would seem more probable.

    OP?

I subscribe to the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” fault theory with the D3/D4. Transmission fault help

Agreed - check battery first, then dodgy switch or dodgy wiring or a dodgy connector somewhere.

    Hi guys

I don't know what to make of this one. I could replicate the fault n the day it first happened. Then the next day I could only replicate it once after a muh longer drive, and now the faults have disappeared and it seems ok.

The only thing I really did was to check electrical connections and unplug and re-plug any sensor connections in the engine bay and at the gearbox. After I did this, I still got the fault once, but then it went away. All my earth connections seem ok. Although I did see 12.17V on my battery once only one morning, but it is charging and starting ok.

It is a mystery. I wonder if there was some slight blockage in the fuel sysetm somewhere that resolved? Or some small wire fracture that earths itself sometime?

I will let you know, but it hasn't come back in a few days and a few 100ks driving. I have ordered a Grenadier which should be here in a month or 2....

    Thanks for your help

    Transmission fault help

With luck it was just a bad connector that was a bit loose.

If the fault only comes up after heavy rain this also points to a wiring or connector issue.

The D3/D4 likes to cry wolf and brings up unrelated fault codes with wiring or battery issues, but if the park/neutral switch fault keeps coming up then this points to a faulty switch in the mechatronic unit.

More details on this little bugger can be found here:

Post in thread 'Park neutral switch failed' Park neutral switch failed | LandyZone - Land Rover Forum

Always need to rule out battery and wiring issues first though as an “algorithm” based fault just means it received conflicting information as opposed to a hard coded fault.
