SupporterI have just lost one of my two fobs into a very large deep river. Where would I get a spare (or two) from without mortgaging the house?
I got 2 fobs on ebay for $35 a piece. As I had the fob with the flat battery I was able to swap the cut key blade for the blank one on the new fob. Then programmed it with the GAP tool. In your case, not having the key, you would need to get it cut and coded (if you don't have a GAP tool). Still significantly cheaper than getting one through a dealer.

Or just get the fob, code it up, and not worry about the physical key (if you have a D4?)

SupporterThanks go to Narangga, SeanC and veebs for reassurance that a lost key is not the end of the world, although it felt like it at the time. We also lost a mobile phone in the river and these days with 2-Step verification, that is a real inconvenience.

SupporterWhoohoo! I bought two new key fobs from E-Bay. I actually have a D4 not a D3 - sorry for any confusion there. They arrived in a couple of days for less than $40 each. Using the GAP IID tool and several emails to/from GAP Team for instructions, I now have 3 working fobs. Next step is to take the two blank physical keys (the emergency ones that hide inside the fob) to a locksmith for cutting. However, just because I could, I tried the emergency key in the lock (LH front door) and found that although the key turns in the lock, the door does not lock or unlock the car. Hmm. Any suggestions?
EDIT: I recently had the door repaired at a panel beater - this may or may not be relevant.
EDIT 2: All is good! It is difficult to turn the key because of the silly fold-out sleeve. So I had another go at it and it locks and unlocks now. The lock is a bit stiff; probably because of lack of use. I just have to get the blanks cut and the job will be done.
EDIT 3: "Sell-Autokey" on E-Bay supplied the new LRD4 fobs complete.
