    Options to recharge EAS reservoir

    Hi Gang,

    I have just finished on my brakes, when the D3 now has a suspension fault. Hitachi compressor.

    It has has slow EAS since we purchased it a few years ago and has been drooping overnight, but it progressed to ''Normal Mode only" messages.

    I worked through the dessicant kit from 4X4 air seals and have also replaced the seals in the reservoir valve block, but the fault remained, specifically C1A20 - Pressure increases too slowly when filling reservoir.

    Due to this I also ordered and worked through the piston seal kit, finished that today and now have C1131 - Air Supply

    There is air coming out of the compressor, I do not know if it is suitable amount though.

    The rear doesn't even try to move, even when using the GAP tool to "test the valves".

    Two questions I have are
    - Is there anyway too "charge" the reservoir? It seems to have at least been drivable before I disconnected and released the pressure to do the seals in the valve block.

    - Not wanting to purchase things unnecessarily, I am resigning myself to the fact that the compressor may have finally died, had a pretty good run, but 15 years and 400000kms old might be time. Is there an expected pressure that the compressor can put out if it is working correctly? I don't want to replace the compressor to find it was the valve block and vice versa.

    The compressor can push out 17 bar. Check the "delivery valve" under the large hex bolt on the head. Grasshoppr had a similar fault recently and his turned out to be the valve. The compressor uses a reed valve on the intake and that spring loaded valve on the head exhaust (not the gallery exhaust). When it's broken the compressor will move air but not make much pressure.

    Don't forget to strip the motor of the compressor and check its brushes,plus clean out all the carbon dust. Seems you have covered most problem areas of these units. The delivery valve as Brad C says can get stuck or the reed valve breaks, the desicant dust causes havoc as it gets pushed through the system.

    Oh and check the lines from the resevoir to the distribution block, these fittings can have leaks if nor pushed fully home.
