    Model Changes 2012 -2016

Hi, Looking at upgrading to a newer D4 and seeking some information. I currently have a 2012 SDV6 SE (over 200k km and rock solid) and looking at moving to a 2016 SDV6 HSE ( under 100k km). Used for towing van (2500kg) and some off-road.

The dealer is not a Land Rover dealer and can’t provide me with the specifics of the car build but has provided the VIN if anyone can help.

I know the car was purchased new in September 2015 from Trinity Land Rover in Cairns, if that rings any bells for anyone lurking here.

I am think the only major difference was the move from the 6 speed to 8 speed gearbox. Are there any other differences other than a bit of trim change?

I am also assuming that accessories that bolted onto the 2012 model should be able to be swapped over (APT sliders and compressor protection as an example).

    Any help appreciated.
    All the best,

    Laurie

Redbook have a car comparison function
    redbook.com.au

Used it when working out trim levels, working out what optional accessories are on the vehicle will be the harder part.

VIN can be checked via the LR online service history website but not sure it'll tell you specs of the individual vehicle.

Was the 2012 model the 3L 6 speed? Assume it has same limitation of rim size as the 8 speed.

I have spoken with the original owner but not a LR person. Couldn’t remember what if any options he got with car so thinking it is just a plain Jane HSE. Would love someone with access to that site you have to subscribe to now to help me out - Topix ????. Might even call the original supplier for info. The Landrover site does not tell you options fitted unfortunately.

Due for a timing belt replacement also so there goes $3000.

    Thanks for the Redbook tip.

Current car is the 3.0 Litre Diesel.

I did a bit of research on Redbook for the two cars, also added in a 2019 D5 SE for consideration as weights are such an issue if towing. What surprised me is that they say the 2016 HSE has 88 kg more payload than the 2012 SE. That seems counter intuitive to me as the HSE should have more stuff that weighs more. Whilst it did not give a payloads for the D5 the GVM minus the tare weight was 814kg, only14 kg more than the 2016 HSE.

Have to do some research but can anyone explain this or tell me if the numbers are incorrect.

    • MY16 D4 SDV6 HSE WEIGHTS
    • Load: 745 kg
    • Tare: 2440 kg
    • Kerb: 2495 kg
    • GVM: 3240 kg

    • MY12 D4 SDV6 SE WEIGHTS
    • Load: 657 kg
    • Tare: 2480 kg
    • Kerb: 2583 kg
    • GVM: 3240 kg

And if you want some more LR logic…the UK vehicle..exact model, has a different set of numbers…go figure
