    270 Awning recommendations

    Hi all,

Have been trawling through posts, but unable to find recommendation for the best self supporting 270 awning for my D4 - allowing for the tailgate of course. I have the Rhino Rack heavy duty roof bars already.

Any advice appreciated - thanks in advance.

I replied to your Facebook post but forgot to add that my falcon awning is on a rhino platform rack, I mounted it as low as possible.

We had 2 Rhino HD roof rails and the original Batwing awning, probably around 14 yrs old by now.
Had no issues on the D4,and it just cleared the tailgate.

Main problem was very strong winds, such as on the beach, make sure it is tied down well.We learnt the hard way,but it was an easy fix.
The good thing is if you do need a part for it they are still available off the shelf.

Also had it on the D2 and now on the LC.

But those pics and replies don’t refer to a self supporting awning. Wasn’t that your original question, about an awning?
You might like to check out the Drifta or Quick Pitch among other self supporting awnings. The awning pictured isn’t self supporting. It looks very like the Rhino one.

    cheers

I had already supplied him info on the Facebook post he made and as said above it's a falcon awning by 23zero.
Most 270 awnings have bars that interfere with the tailgate and even the free standing ones need poles when windy.

    I don’t use Facebook sorry.
Some freestanding awnings are really strong and certainly don’t need poles to keep them up unless it’s blowing over 60kph or more. They can also be secured by ropes without poles if it’s windy. For example Quick Pitch Weathershade 20 Second Awning - Quick Pitch

That's true but the bulk and weight of them put me off,30 plus kg is too much .
That awning still has a pole.

However the awning doesn’t rely on the pole to stay up.

I would have thought that a decision about the weight of the awning would be up to the OP. He was asking for recommendations on self supporting awnings which the Falcon clearly isn’t. Nor is the Rhino Batwing (which is what I have on my car).

I still recommend he considers any of these:- The Bush Company, Drifta, Quick Pitch, Boss and/or Eezi Awning to name a few SELF SUPPORTING awnings.

Yes i gave him something else to look at as most of these awnings have 2 fixed non articulating beams that hit the tailgate where as the falcon doesn't or you need to mount them high to clear it, just expanding on what i told him on FB.
