    D4 Headlining repair - Perth

    Hi there

My headlining has started detaching itself above the rear passenger windows. I assume the glue has 'failed' (after amost 15 years of use)...
I assume the best repair is to get a motor trimmer/upholsterer to strip and repair it.
Any recommendations in the Perth area? I'm in the Eastern Hills area, so closer to there is better - but I'd rather travel to ensure a good job!

    TIA

I've been a bit worried about this. It is a massive job to remove the headlining in a D4. Removing A and B pillars is OK, but to remove the C and D pillars requires the bases to be removed. Then there's all the wiring that is affixed to the top of the roof lining. All this will be very expensive unless you can do it yourself, but then you have the problem of getting the roof lining to the upholsterer!
Mind you, pulling the whole interior apart gives you the opportunity to give it a really good clean (and check drain tubes if you have a sunroof) and wire up any accessories you may have been planning.
I was wondering how long the roof lining will last. Yours is the first I've heard of, so I guess 14 years or so may be the standard.

I'll see if I can find out who did our D3. Mum organised it while I was in Melbourne in 2020, but it was $800 drive-in/drive-out and they did a fantastic job. For chuckles I asked how much it'd be if I removed and re-installed and from memory it was a couple of hundred cheaper. I figured they could do it for that.

I know it was in Myaree. I'll see if mum still has the details.

    That’d be great, thanks.

It might be a bit out of your way but B-Trimmed in Osborne Park does a good job and works on Land Rovers.

There was a post on the FB page a while back about this too - First Class Motor Trimmers in Maddington/Kenwick was recommended, at around $250 for a Disco 3/4.

I'm about to go down the same process - 14 years, and one very rough recent GRR trip has caused the boot lining to sag. I might see if he can replace the top of the door cards too, before they wear through (paper thin now, so only a matter of time).

I had a Tiguan relined a few years back by someone working out of their garage in Canning Vale - also did a brilliant job.

Sheesh! $250 sounds like an awesome deal!
I was just quoted roughly $1100 for the D4. I'll give them a call - but it does sound too good to be true!

Sounds like the price if you remove / install yourself

There is a video on YouTube on how to and other than how massive it is there’s nothing too scary.

You have to flatten the rear seats and remove one of the cargo area plastic sides to allow it to flatten enough to get out the back.

I've also reached out - sounds like they are on holidays until 16 Jan...

I'm not interested in DIY on this - I dare say reinstalling without creasing or otherwise stuffing up the new material is worth paying the expert to do!
