    CV Joint Replacement

    Update on yesterday's recovery.
Got the car back from the tracks after 3 hours and a tow / trailer. Not as bad as I thought. Can drive in Rock Crawl mode with the front left CV knocking.
    My new questions are these:
Has anyone replaced these themselves? Should I do it? What else to I need to replace at the same time?

Talking to my Indy the other day and he was saying my front left cv was worn. Said it’s common on the Disco for the front left CV to fail. Sorry I can’t help, but it’s good info for others to note when it comes to preventative maintenance.

Im pretty sure Shane did a video on replacing both front CVs.

I have removed them when i replaced the front diff and pretty easy job considering, and i followed Shanes video on how to remove them.

He replaced them with repco units from memory.. check out Shanes shed on youtube and you will find it .
Also i think outback discovery did a video on how to remove the front diff that also shows how to remove the front CVs

I was surprised how reasonably priced a whole shaft was, at about $400. I think given mine is worn I’ll change mine out.

Easy job to replace. Support chassis on axle stand and use jack under the lower arm, remove wheel . Undo the sway bar link to top arm nut, remove tie-rod from stub axle, undo the driveshaft nut and then undo the top ball-joint to stub axle nut and pull the stub axle toward you and twist to one side and then a hard yank on the shaft and ii will come out.

As per above, only tip i can offer is to use a long flat bladed screwdriver and stick this into the gap where the shaft comes out of the differential, wedge it slightly to one side whilst giving a sharp tug on the shaft. The tip of the screwdriver should just compress the split ring that holds the shaft in the housing, the sharp tug pulls the ring over the lip in the diff.

Looked underneath mine today and noticed grease everywhere. Right front inner boot has split. FML.
