Pry bar between cv and casing. Big sharp crack on the lever and the snap ring on the shaft will compress and the shaft will depart the gearbox.

Been trying that with chisels, pry bars, flat head screw drivers.... Not winning. My underbody protection screws won't budge so my angle sucks

Penetrant on the bash plate bolts, or cut them off and replace with new. You need a sharp angle to get the snap ring to compress. Sharp tug at the same time as you lever in, sometimes a 2 person job.

That plan makes me despair of life less. I'll spray now and see if mate with impact driver can come help... This bloody job

Mate. It was still super awkward with the plate off but after 4 good hits in the end of the pry bar it was out like I hadn't already been working on it for all afternoon. Time to put the car back together when the kids go to bed and put an end to this thread with some pics of the shattered CV. Thanks for playing everyone and thanks for giving me a plan @Eric SDV6SE

I’ll join you in a week or so when mine turn up and I replace both on my driveway.

Guys. I messed up. I think the axel has fallen out while fixing out the brakes. It's now stretched the boot. Any tips for putting it back in?

The inside can fall apart in the boot and outside can’t. It fits back together just a matter of lining up the balls and grooves. Is how the unit compensates for changing length during suspension stroke. Got to be careful even during LCA change not to let it fall out.

Any tips on lining it back up? I can't pull the whole cv out again as it's now that little bit longer

Assuming the other end was not installed back in the hub you’d just twist it a bit to allow it to pop back in to the female end near the diff. I can’t imagine it would be possible to install it popped out as you wouldn’t be able to bolt up the hub carrier with the extra length. Just by chance is it the right length did you measure it against removed one?
