    Blackvue coax cable connector

I finally installed my Blackvue DR750X 2CH dashcam. The front unit was easy but I wanted to mount the rear camera on the tailgate glass which meant routing the cable from inside the cabin to the top tailgate. I tried to squeeze the connector through one of the OEM rubber boots but it was too big, so I bit the bullet and cut it off...

How hard could replacing a coax plug be? Quite challenging to find the right connector to start with

This is the connector I bought:
MCX Male Crimp Connector - RG174/RG178/RG188/RG316

And these so I could see the internals of the 2.5mm cable for soldering and crimping:

In the end, it worked first go - but was very fiddly.

    Hope this helps someone else.

Ha nice one. I was scared that I'd get it stuck half way.

Looking at it now I think you could use the right side boot, remove the washer hose, thread the cable and reinstall the hose. Maybe?

    Oh well, done now.

Pushing 50, I now can't live without these. I keep one in the D3, one in the Van and one at home.

Good job getting an MCX first try. Fiddly little buggers.

In case you can't find the magnifier/s, you can film tiny writing on your phone and the zoom in to see it, more difficult to do if you are working on a fiddly part though.

Or on an Apple device, you can use the inbuilt Magnifier app, but that doesn’t help you do what was done here. I need one of those thingies. I’m going blind.

Only in a pinch. A mate taught me to use the camera to blow up menus I couldn’t read because I reversed over my glasses. To use it in anger though would mean putting down the soldering iron or crimpers. Oh to have been born with 3 hands.

    Fits through easily.

I’ve got the camera coax and a couple of lighting power feeds added through the factory ‘tubes’
