2008 D3 - Scrap it or give it go - HPFP, P2290, Crossover Pipe, Oil Cooler, Rear Diff

    Hi Everyone,

It's been a long time since I haunted AULRO, the last time when I had the D2. I have a 2008 D3 in pretty good condition, 331k kms. I bought it after the previous owner replaced the seized engine. I've had a few big things replaced, EGR values, hubs (front) and transfer case (from a D4).

Having finally got it in to the local LR indy workshop, they reported a few issues that have been missed by the other mechanic - missing heat shields, leaking Oil Cooler and the crossover pipe not correctly anchored and with that it's cracked and needs replacement, also, the rear diff is making a terrible noise.

The last service I had the air box replaced.

OK, so here the rub - the car is throwing Low pressure fuel faults - P2290-00 - Injector control pressure too low (2

The workshop said up front that they would just go with replacing all 6 injectors as experience for them is that's nearly always the fault, however as per this info on the LR Time YouTube diagnosis of the same issue: https://youtu.be/Q8Q1vnPbQRw'si=yUNCPQMpmM0EOfaM&t=1752 I'm seeing the same fault occur. they also said it's not worth the cost of repairs given the crossover pipe, oil cooler and diff (and the injects say 6x1000) + labour.

    I've done some quick sums:

    Fuel Pump $2,757.00
    Oil Cooler $1,092.00
    Cross over pipe $695.00
    $4,544.00

I'm not that keen to do the work myself, so thinking labour could be like 10 hours @250/hr - so it's getting quite high as a total, and of course it's not gaurenteed to resolve the issue, and of course the diff still has to be sorted out.

Looking at the current market for D3 Discos they still pull in a decent price, more than I thuoght to be honest.

    So my contention -

Scrap it - hard to reconcile not having a vehicle
Have a crack myself - nothing to lose other than sanity
Get the indy workshop to do it - which I guess would it make sense to do all the work body off? - I guess I can ask them at the time.

I guess this is more a cry for counselling as I'm struggling with the head/heart decision.

    Peter.

What could you replace it with for seven grand? Assuming you could find something presentable, what hidden issues would you be buying?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Yes, that's playing into the mix, anything else is a risk and I'm already tracking the major parts done.

    Sigh.

    Thanks.

You can save a few hundred by buying parts from the UK and elsewhere local, the HPFP can be bought from Ford for just under $2300 , oil cooler from UK $300 .
