    Discovery 4, Engine noise/rattle 1500-2000 rpm

    Hello Ladies and Gents

My Discovery 4 developed some strange rattling noise coming from the engine area, I wonder if anybody experienced something similar and can give some insights, thank you, your help is much appreciated. here is the video :

Hi and welcome. That sounds like the timing chain death rattle. I'd suggest taking it to a reputable independent mechanic specializing in these cars. I wouldn't drive it, you will do more damage requiring a new engine. The fact it still runs tells me it not the crank shaft, so that's a win. Best of luck

To me it sounds like something loose and rattling not engine noise per se, dont going revving it anymore until you have had the covers off to check.
Timing, engine and even the fuel pump belt cover just to rule that out.

    Hi

I have the exact same problem, we already checked the chains and changed the chain tensioners and it is the same!!

The car starts and runs fine but has this strange rattle between 1500 and 2000 rpm.

    Have you sorted this out?

    Thanks in advance

Cracked exhaust manifold is not uncommon, could be the metallised gasket or a stud / nut rattling away.

Definitely something loose or broken, exhaust or heat shield related would be my bet, especially with it only happening at a given 500rpm range IMO it’s to do with the revs and vibration not mechanical wear/failure
A solid shaft screwdriver is a good way to locate where a new use is coming from by putting your ear to the hands and placing the screw driver on different parts

    Sorted?

Did you sort this out? I have the same noise and garage is not making progress on it.

    Curious!

    Best,
