Discovery 3 V6 Diesel Power Loss

    Good Morning All

Just wanted to reach out to the brains trust as my new to me D3 had a moment yesterday with power loss, which cleared itself.

A bit of history on the D3. I've owned her for a few months now after picking up this D3 with 130k the clock with no service history. My previous D3 was a V6 petrol which I had owned for 8 years and only sold her when I came across this unicorn of a D3 with this indicated KM's.

    So the issue.....
We completed a trip over the weekend (750km's) with mixed driving of highway, town and a bit 4WD in the mix. No issues to record.
My son borrowed the D3 last night to collect a part and while driving home he experienced a loss of power and wouldn't rev above idle, with an error message (I think he said limp mode) Turned the old girl off and on again and she came good and back to normal.
I had a look when he got home and used my basic scan tool with no codes to report.

I've done a basic search last night and it could be numerous things (sticking turbo actuators, etc) so I thought I would ask owners of anything they have experienced with their 2.7 V6 diesels.

As always any help, sugestions is most appreciated.

It will be one of a few common issues but this is why a code reading tool is the most important tool when owning one of these cars as they actually tell you or pointing the right direction. Someone near you may be able to read the codes.

Some faults can disappear for weeks or months giving a seller ample time to pass the car on. Nothing money can’t fix though.

    A small update.

Took the car out this morning and under hard acceleration the car would go into limp mode, again cleared it's self with shutting the car off and on again.
Used my "basic" code reader and had these two codes - U0401-94 & P2290-00

I will have a look for obvious signs today of any issues like, turbo hoses or loose cable connections, etc.

These cars throw "U" codes all over the place. As long as it's not persistent I'd ignore it. The "P" code isn't good though. Put that one in the search box in the top right hand corner of the page, but I'd suggest sitting down and pouring a stiff drink before hitting the "search" button.

Edit : I note your location is "WA". If you are metro and north of the river you're welcome to borrow my low pressure fuel gauge if you need it.

As mentioned above, its a fuel delivery issue that can anything from a blocked fuel filter to a failing high pressure pump.
More detailed error codes will help but i would start with replacing the fuel filter if you don't know the history, if its a euro4 you can use a Ryco Z1116 filter.
It would be unusual for the HPFP to fail at that mileage though .

Ours had done a crank at 100kk and the HPFP started to go at 150kk so it's not at all unprecedented.
