The EPB module is out and I have detached the cables, which move freely. Internally the cables are not linked, so I'm inclined to connect the electrical plug and see if pulling the lever once reconnects the cables or if the same fault reoccurs. I'm having a cuppa first though.
The emergency release cable is sad though.
You can manually rewind them internally if it is jammed. Prise off the outside cover and wind the end stop back. It will reengage following this. Add some grease to the mechanism and reseal the lid.Quote:

The internals weren't jammed, only the 2 sections disconnected and the gearbox is like new.
Having manually reconnected the sides then reconnected the electrical connector, applying the epb causes the module to try to tension the unattached cables which after a few seconds of whirring, fails with the same temperature dtc, but the instrument cluster message now states that the epb is not applied.
I'll reseal the module then remount it c/w cables attached but not attach the cables to the brakes, then try applying the epb again, hoping to see the cables pull in. I'll set it to mounting position to finish the re-installation. I'm hoping that the original fault was because it couldn't relatch the mechanism for some reason.
