Hi all

Both my son and I have just purchased 05 Disco 3's - his an HSE V8 and mine a TDV6 - both would you believe Bonati Grey

(NOW UNDERSTAND THE WORD 'PERMAGRIN')
formerly an avid patrol owner - I now understand that owning a nissan patrol was a neccesary part of the path of enlightenment to owning a LR

Just been thru the NE floods and living on the river flats in Wang has given me 2 weeks of extensive deep water driving. Maybe coincidental but now have a fuzzy sound from the drive train.
Just dropped the Disco in to Blacklocks Albury for a 05/06 diesal recall and asked them to have a listen - seems like its the 'lower belt tensioner' is crook - much relieved as it could have been a much more expensive noise!

Getting the vehicle ready for some touring and have to date

• 17" steel Dynamic rims
• maxxis bighorns
• rooftop tent
• 'tuned motor'
• triple battery setup with 2 yellowtops (waiting on traxside gear)
• need a mitch hitch desperately
• only have 1 mudflap left
• waiting on auto suspension height adjustors
• had to buy a new tiny UHF as there wasn't a lot of room for the normal size unit

Recently purchased a 'Regal 4x4 desert series' offroad poptop van. 12' x 6'6" same footprint as the Disco. Rock solid little van built the same as the 'Supreme Getaway' - you literaly don't know its there - ATM 1600kg
Fitted duel batteries and am going to retro fit the inside for just the 'Bride' and I.

The Wangaratta 4WD club has 2 Disco 3's and a Defender as well as a few vans, I hope to go where the camper trailers go and also to use it (the van) as a base camp for weekend away as well as touring.


Is there an automatic way of knowing when this thread has been added to?

It sound like you've got a very nice setup going on there.

I have just joined the forum. I have picked up my first LR new to me D3 end Jan 11.

I have been lurking in this forum and finding out as much as I can about LR D3s and last weekend I took her out to the Watagans along with some friends from a 4WD club there.

I was amazed at what the stock standard D3 is capable of!! Mine is a MY08 TDV6 S model.

After the weekend, I have now made out a Short!! (hehe) list of things to add on to the D3 to make it more suitable for 4WD.

Currently running road tyres for the 18". So looking at getting some AT's
Got the Snorkel. Will get it fitted during next service
Seriously considering some lift and susp option after the watagan weekend... Surprised that the lowest point in the rear was the exhaust pipes and ended putting a small dent in one pipe!!:(

Mine is the coil spring susp version not the air! (sure you knew that anyways) :D

Not very sure about front bull bars. but will consider putting on some under side protection/front and rear

Cargo Barrier.

UHF.. Already have Sat phone for the last 3+ years..

BTW, my D3 is not my daily drive.... it is more for weekend aways and longer trips.

G'day all, I've been hanging around here for a while, became a member last month, and thought I should introduce myself.

We've bought a Zermatt silver 2007 (MY08) TDV6 HSE - 45K km, school run special. Despite being bought a month ago, it's still in transit from Melbourne to Perth, having been caught up in the backlog of rail shipments as a result of the line being washed out last month. I'm itching to get my hands on it and start getting it into trim for our Easter holiday trek.

I've followed all sorts of threads on this site and on Disco3 UK and spoken to quite a few incredibly helpful people. Last night my wife and I went to one of Gordon's seminars (Green Oval Experience - GG Haggis on here) which was great, a real education on the D3/4/RRS' special features and some great tips for us. I really recommend it to you. Our last Landy was a D1 300Tdi and this one is very different! We're hoping to make it to his next drive day later this month - if the car arrives in time.

I've bought a Traxide dual battery kit & Optima Yellow Top battery (thanks to Drivesafe for his advice and posts on here) and sourced some well priced D3 'S' 17" wheels on which I intend to fit some suitable touring/offroad tyres so I can keep the 18"s for best (lots of advice here on that, too). Also booked in for a Milford cargo barrier to be fitted, and will fit a little ARB compressor in the spare space under the bonnet. I've ordered a compressor cover plate and EAS height sensor rods from GOE and a snorkel and various bits and bobs from Duckworth in the UK - can't believe how much cheaper I can get LR OEM parts from them, even with the shipping cost. I'll be adding an ARB bar and some extra lights too once I've decided whether or not to get a winch, and if so which one. I'm not sure our likely usage warrants the cost of a Warn over a Bushranger or Ironman - or even mounting a winch at all - thoughts/recommendations, anyone?

We're planning on becoming regular weekend adventurers out of Perth and on doing some long trips around WA, so look out for us (we'll be the ones that are stuck!).

I too have been hanging around for quite some months now, and would like to say Hi. I have a 2005 TDv6 SE that the previous owner had specified with e-diff and adaptive headlights. After purchasing the car I developed an affliction of the face that I now appreciate is called a permagrin. The car is an almost impossibly good interstate tourer, makes light work of ferrying groups of children, is a pleasure to drive to the snow and feels great around town too. I have fitted a Traxide second battery to run the fridge and have fitted HID inserts into the driving lights. I am preparing the car for a trip from Melbourne through the Centre to the Kimberly, so am particularly interested in many of the posts.

Today I had a pleasant surprise - I took the car to a well known Land Rover dealer in the inner east of Melbourne for the Safety Recall P017 and was told that the Rotary Coupler would also be fixed free of charge. I feel Land Rover is looking after its product and me well!

Wanted to quickly say g'day as a newb on the forums. I am about to pen the ink on an MY08 stornaway grey D3 TDV6 SE. It has less than 50,000k's on it and looks as if it rolled off the lot only yesterday.

From what I've already read here, I'm looking forward to an awesome few years with this LR. Cheers

Hello fellow tragics.

My first post after months of lurking and picking everyone's brains on a range of D3 related topics.

A big thanks to all who have contributed their knowledge and experience. It has certainly helped me up that steep learning curve.

Also, thanks to the referrals on this site, I contacted Mike at Southern Cross L/R who gave me an excellent price on my extended warranty and was a pleasure to deal with.

Over the years I have owned two Rangies, a 3.9 Isuzu County, a 300TDI Defender that I had converted to auto, and now a 2008 D3.

The D3 is simply brilliant. It is a pleasure to drive on and off road, economical, and, believe it or not, a tad quieter than my beloved Defender.

About the only thing that I have issue with is the drive train back-lash (clunk). Land Rover claim "They all do it" and "It's normal" but I still have to get my head around that, especially when the auto Defender had no such issues. Apart from that, I can't keep the grin off my face.
