    SatNav 4WD Screen Look Alike

    Hi,

I think I have worked out how to display information similar to the factory SatNav information on a CAR PC... and more.

I am just not sure if anyone would be interested.

    My thoughts are as follows:
    - use AUX input on the stereo - that way if it all goes pear shaped you still have sound
    - A Car PC with specialist software and hardware allowing:
    - AM/FM Radio
    - On road navigation - Destinator
    - Optional off road navigation - OziExplorer
    - Rear Vision Camera (optional)
    - Touch Screen to fit into the cubby.
    - Bluetooth (to be confirmed) phone interface
    - Wireless for access to the home network (and MacDonalds etc)
    - LR3 4WD Screen - similar to the factory one, but can be expanded to show other items as well.....

Currently I am thinking that the package would not be cheap, but it would be significantly less than the $6K for the LR package.

I am also thinking of offering a Plug-in only package where the client supplies the CAR PC and screen.

Anways I am interested in comments anyone may have.

    AP.

I know how to get the data out, with relative ease (but at some expense).

Sounds interesting, more info please, its not hard to be more competitive than $1500 for a bluetooth kit.

You would think not, but with the way the aussie $ is it could be interesting, anyway, I hope to pick up my D3 next week.

I have some development HW already in house.

I suspect more will be needed, but I hope to be able to get away with the "bare" bones.... working out how to ensure it is as slim and cheap is the hard part.

Everything up to displaying the LR info is pretty easy and uses standard hardware (Though a kit with everything supplied ready built might be nice for those not comfortable building their own). However, if you made the interface to display 4WD, performance and diagnostic data for sensible money, which interfaced to either a car PC/screen or direct to a Kenwood or Alpine touch screen via RGB/Composite, I think you'd have a winner.

I have the ability to do all you suggest with an aftermarket head unit, Xenarc touch screen and a Dell Mini 9 in the glovebox except the 4x4 info. So I agree with jik22 the software to do this would be useful.

    Maybe not yet.
I don't think he has anything to sell.
Mods, is market research classified as commercial?

Nothing to sell, , just working on something for myself personally. From there if there is something to sell I will get the Mods approval before continuing further. Alternatively I will post a how to do it, if it is in the realm of relative possibility (ie. no major hw requirements).

BTW I picked up my 07 TDV6 Disco today.... I even let the missus have a drive.

    Now onto that display....

    Cheers,
    AP
