Disco 3 Spare Wheel cable jammed

My bloody spare wheel cable release jammed and is totally seized. Any other 3 owners experienced this before?

    Not an unusual fault.

It will require replacement of the winch mechanism, which is a 10 minute job.

Hopefully yours is still under warranty.

If it's not under warranty, you can remove the rivets, pull it apart & sort out the cable yourself. Use small nuts & bolts instead of rivets for when it happens again.

From what I've seen, the problem is caused by over 'unwinding' of the cable. It extends fully out then starts winding back in again in the wrong direction.

One needs to maintain downward pressure on the cable at all times. Local tyre joint stuffed mine up. I will be explaining what is needed next time

Don't let the tyre joints use the rattle gun on them as it can stuff up the clutch

Oddly enough mine is in at the dealer at the moment with the tyre winch being one of the items that needs repairing.

mine was replaced by the dealer just before i bought it (90 000 kms) because it was jammed and they could not get the old flogged spare out from underneath to give me a shiny new one.

    Seems pretty common
