12 months ago we went to look at D3s in earnest and were overwhelmed by all the silver vehicles at the dealership where every LR was silver. As our 1st D2 was also silver (current one is White Gold), we wanted something different but in reality, its the silvery colours that hide the dirt.

Silver is definitely the best colour for hiding dirt and scratches. My D1 was the first silver car I owned and it was amazing how bad it could get and still look reasonably clean and polished. The new Defender is also silver and hides the dirt and scratches. I honestly think the thing is that reflective as well that it keeps the car cooler than if it was white.
Also white will stain - well the bauxite in the soil up here adds a pinky colour to anything after a few years:(
I've often wondered how much abuse the paintwork gets when its not washed, but I think the clear top coat on metalics doesn't get affected the way straight coloured paint does although I've not had non-metalic modern paintwork. I've noticed that bird droppings don't stain the clear top coat on metallic paint.Quote:

Graeme it always looks dirty, because it is! I do a lot of gravel road driving and some farms, but don't wash it that often. When it's clean, it stays clean for a while if I stay on the bitumen.
White is the coolest. (Some here have claimed that black is, but that's a simple misunderstanding of the physics involved.)
Everywhere else I've lived I'd agree with that statement. But the dirt up here is kind of special. It does stain the other colours, just not as noticeably.Quote:

Having any road grim on the windscreen far out does any reflections.
That's the sort of experience I haven't had in my couple of short drives of D3s - I cannot remember how the bonnet is seen. I had to specifically look at my D2's bonnet because I don't recall looking at it when driving. I did notice that I see a dark reflection of the road, not the bonnet colour.Quote:
