    Safari vs. Mantec OEM Snorkles

    Hi all,

I was wanting to get a snorkle on a D3 and was wondering if there are any major differences between the mantec and safari snorkles. Does one funtion better than the other or is it just a question of looks?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you're planning serious water crossings, invest in a wetsuit for your computer before you buy a snorkel.
Mr Tata won't accept any warranty claims on even a 600mm water crossing.

OEM is a raised air intake, its not sealed and therefore not waterproof.

    Safari is sealed / waterproof...

As for warranty, correct fording procedures wont get your computer wet....

You need to water proof the connector on the Transmission Control Module(TCM). Take the battery out and it is in a plastic box in front of the Engine Control Module. Use neutral cure silicon on the wires going into the connector and self bonding tape to wrap around the connector and socket. If not you could get stuck if water gets on the connector

Garry, I assume neutral cure silicon overcomes a corrosion problem other silicon fumes may cause on bare metal contacts or circuit boards???

Perceived fume corrosion is one of the reasons I have not done this mod yet, aside from getting around to it.

Depends on the dealer and if you tell then you have done a water crossing.
My has repaced some after an engine bay wash.
I used 'Plasticote' to seal mine.

You can seal the LR RAI but you need to seal/replace the 'religious' hose between the intake and the air box. Also silicone the RAI to the intake boot.

Mr Tata can't refuse warranty claims up to 600mm. The advertising literature and specifications quote a 600mm fording depth. If warranty claims due to water fording up to that level are refused then Mr Tata has breached the Trade Practices Act.

Like Caver said, go to another dealer or straight to Customer Care.

My manual and the LR website quotes max wading depth as 700mm. Is 600mm an aussie thing?

    Hey CaverD3,

I have got the LR RAI, thinking that is was good for water crossings, apparently not. When you refer to the "religious" hose (air box to the intake boot on far side guard) am I understanding that this hose is not water proof and must be replaced?

Anything else that should be looked at for water crossings?

I am off to the Cape in about 3 weeks and it looks like I have got some work to do.

    Thanks
