						This is the installation in my old D3 and will be duplicated in the new one next month.
I have designed all the bracketry (?) and power take off. The pump is a modified ZF from 4x4 winches in UK and the winch is a Milemarker from the USA. Hydraulic winches will run all day without getting hot and are quiet!

Hi Desert, can you post info on how your set up is wired.
I’m in the process of putting a kit together to enable the auxiliary battery to be used while winching and I’m look for ideas and suggestions, particularly anything relating to the use and mounting location of the switch, as in diagram below, but with an SC80-LR control module.

Tim, I've been thinking about this for my D2a - I already have a deep cycle in the back with an SC80 but thinking of fitting a winch and considering a second cranking battery under the bonnet. I had thought it might be better to connect the winch to the 2nd battery to help prevent any issues with voltage drop and car electronics - but your diagram suggests otherwise, is this because the current draw would be too high through the SC80?
second question (more relevant here as well) - is it possible to replace the marine switch with a relay or are they too many $$ for the Amps required?
Third question - how important would it be to match battery types - the D2a is a calcium battery (not sure about D3)

First off, I too must apologies to ahillar for getting way off subject.
Hi Andy, if you try to use a second battery for winching, the SC80 ( as should most DB controllers ) should be protected against the high current draw and thats what the marine battery switch does.
You can get a 200 amp continuos rated solenoid and use it instead of a marine battery switch.
You should always use a cranking battery for you second battery when it’s to be used for during winching.
By the way, pick you cranking battery carefully when it’s to be used for winching, some batteries are better than others and some of the high end calcium cranking batteries are not as suited as for winching as ordinary cranking batteries.
I have a Traxide SC80-LR Plug-&-Play Kit + the LR HCE Kit specifically designed for Disco 3 + Optima Yellow Top D34 battery for sale. Highly recommended for D3. All purchased new Nov 08. Original cost was $740, easy install.
