Thread: To D3 or not to D3

pain in the rear i know, sad for a brand that has such a passionate following, especially about serious 4wding.

i know this dosnt help. this will be in the back of my mind when i head to the cape in september.

The D3 has turned out a very reliable vehicle.
Many of our D3 owners live in far away places and travel DAYS to get serviced.
130klm is a very short distance in the overall scheme of things.
mate I'd drive 130 kays for a nice meal!
I'd be more inclined to find a good dealer regardless of distance.

Hi John, as pedro posted, the D3 is proving to be an extremely reliable vehicle, so other than your services, you shouldn’t need to worry to much.

That 130 km drive is also worth it because Bruce Lynton Land Rover service staff are about the best you can get.

I’ve dealt with 8 different LR dealers in 3 states and the best have been MLC in Melbourne and Bruce Lynton in SEQ, so if you you can plan to make a shopping day out of it, be well worth the 130 km drive.

I live in Melbourne, and travel from one side to the other to get my Defender serviced at a specialist. I suspect your 130km trip would be around the same time ;-)

I don't consider 130km very far to drive though.

I'm thinking that once you start riding around on the D3's suspension that you will look forward to the commute!!

We've had ours for 16 months or so now and it is a brilliant vehicle. We have had a couple of niggly bits that needed to be fixed, but we were able to easily wait until the service came up to have them fixed.

2 years, 54,000k, no issues or breakdowns to date. Go the D3

John, once you get your D3, ( not if you get a D3 ) you will look for any and every excuse to drive it.

John has a good point about parts – my D2 was off the road for 4 days over Easter – tiny plastic pin in wiper blade broke and I couldn’t even get a wiper blade assembly for 4 days over the wet Easter weekend – and I live in Brisbane … Admittedly that was quite unusual event but still - 4 days …. Even with the outstand reliability of the D3 – what’s the availability of basic consumables for the D3, RRS and L322?

Really sorry to continue the negativity but I wouldn’t purchase anything based on Kev’s 50% promise until it passes the Senate – his original 30% claimable promise that was part of the stimulus package was rejected – a lot of people have parted with a lot of cash based on what was "promised" in the media, including some who purchased 600k charter boats – they must be praying on this one after the meeting with their Tax Agent. I nearly spent big – until I spoke with my accountant, got a "just because businesses are advertising it does not mean it is all done and dusted! You must wait for the official legislation fine print." lecture.
