How high is your D3

This is following on from the Post RE D3 s off road.

What I am after is some height measurements of members D3s to assist me in selecting a set of front springs to best match the raised ones already fitted to the rear end of my 2006 D3 s coiler. The waters have become a little muddy as the number on the Kings springs I have fitted are not listed and there seems to be some conjecture on the amount of lift current listed springs give.

The measurements can be from air suspension models at off road height (this will give me an indication of how they normaly sit on level ground at that setting, tail up, level etc) this will give a comparison.

All you coilers out there. Measurements of Coilers standard and lifted.

The points of measurement I am after are as follows and if you could include whether the vehicle is on standard tyres or not would be good.

On level ground:-

1, height from ground to the highest point of the bottom edge of wheel arch or flare (measured vertically through the outside centre of the road wheel) front and back wheel arches.

2, height from the ground to the lowest point of the rear diff.

3, Height from the ground to the lowest point at the center of the member between the front wheels.

I think this could be an interesting excercise for quite a few members who have changed or are thinking of altering suspension as it will give a base, comparison and reference ie! has my suspension sagged is it standard, what have I gained etc.

I will start with my vehicle as it is at the moment and the suggested format

2006 tdv6 D3 s (coiler) tyres standard 235/70 17. Suspension lifted in the rear.

1, F(front) 805mm. R(rear) 875mm.

2, RD(rear diff) 235mm

3, FM(front member) 185mm

Hey Wardh,

The follow measurement are for a TDV6 SE - "Off Road" setting - Air Suspension.

1/ Front - 890mm
Rear - 895mm

2/ Cross Member - 270mm

3/ Bottom of Diff - 270mm (Note exhaust pipes 5-10mm lower)

Tyres = Goodyear Silent Amour 265x60x18. 50% worn or 10mm.

1) Rear = 880, Front = 865
2) 248
3) 260 from the underside of the bash plate, lowest point.

Tyres are brand new Pirelli Scorpion ATR 255/60 R18.

Interesting the difference in height from front to rear. All I did was start the car in the garage and raise it, so maybe the self levelling mode was active.

I was wondering if this excercise would start to show some variations between vehicles. It will be interesting as it progresses.

can anyone post up some pics of the D3 in standard height as well as off road height, I would imagine seeing these different heights would add some meaning to the measurements

ie 50mm doesnt sound much but looks alot more

The WSM documents that offroad height is 55mm above std height, and access mode is 50mm below std height. Remember that the vehicle will need to be moved when changing heights to allow the track to adjust.

Attached is a 'graph of two standard D3's side by side and at the lowest (access mode) and the highest setting - not normal 'off road' mode but the setting you can achieve after bottoming out in off road mode (computer automatically senses you are stuck and raises extra 35mm [I think] - then you can, with a bit of trickery, raise it a further 35mm [once again, I'm not sure of these measurements but they'd be pretty close].

This setting can only be obtained after the automatic lift as mentioned above and as it results in the vehicle being at the max air bag extension, it would not be wise to drive at this height - apart from a short distance to clear an obstacle and get 'unstuck'

Hey Extreme,

I am interested in your post about raising the suspension to max height.

How is max setting achieved ?

Is able to de done manually or is it just something the computer does ?

Any additional info would be appreciated.
