    LED rear lights

Just thought I'd let you D3 fanatics know that LR have released a LED rear light kit. I assume it's for the D4 model but it's a direct replacement for the D3 lights too.

    Part number LR008052.

It's a complete light set replacement. The individual lights appear clear while off.

    Google brings up this:
Britcar (UK) Ltd > LR008052 LED CLEAR REAR LAMP UNITS DISCO111 (G)

Have you seen the price; they obviously haven't heard of the GFC.

I was thinking about getting a set of these when I saw them in a brochure. Now I am thinking that they will be a long way off.

I would personally prefer LR fix their stupid rear lamp design - which has seen way too many bulbs replaced in less than 3 years.

Has anyone fitted LED replacement bulbs and were there any issues to doing so?

Smile LED replacements in old fittings

I did a search around my local suppliers and also with "OFFICIALDOM'.

    1. Cannot retrofit new fittings into older models.
    2. CAN fit LED bulbs into old fittings, in fact "Better than original".
This is due to the likely hood of "blowing" being very much reduced.

On the supply side of things:
Two types of bulbs, with two types of LED inside envelope.
    a. Same shape as original - to allow for the tapered shroud shape reflector.
    b. Balloon type envelope - more LEDs inside, brighter cand more all over illumination, but may not fit in all circumstances. BEWARE!.

    c. "Clear" look LEDS that come on in colours, in either of the above styles.
    d. Coloured LEDs to suit function - amber, red, clear/white.
    Also avail in either shape.

The best option, I am told, and tend to agree with, is to go for the coloured LEDs, as then you don't lose some of the output as it goes through the coloured filter, a.k.a. the plastic lens/cover.

Again, go for the brighter output i.e. more LEDs , provided they fit.
5W and 21W combination, off-set pins/ level pins etc. equivalents all available.

Have fun. They cost a bit, but they should outlast many ordinary bulbs.

In my area, I found only one supplier - AUTO ONE. The Barn, Supercheap, Repco and others did not have stocks. JAYCAR have some types.

    Rovers 4.
