What has the HSE got there? or was it the V8?

Cool, I'll be able to afford one in another 15 years when the 200 Tdi is worn out......

D4 test drive by an Aussie in the UK.

I just drove my D3 to a local dealer in the UK and managed to have a D4 test drive on the black-top. Nice.

It has a bit more power which is a little slow to respond but moves the vehicle more rapidly than the D3. The gear changes and the steering have been made even smoother that the D3 (which was very good). It offers a slightly quieter and softer ride too. Ground clearance hasn't changed (they are all air suspension here now). Interior is jazzed up a touch - nothing to get excited about. The top of the range model is pretty swish but out of my range. I'll have to ask my wife to get another job!

I've been lucky enough to have had D3's in Oz since they were first released and have travelled in varying conditions from the Vic High Country to the Qld Hay River Track (nth Simpson). The D3's (and earlier) in standard form have been excellent, and the D4 will be a bit better because of the extra power.

I like a vehicle that is up to the task. I don't mind what it looks like. My recommendation to anyone who wants get into 4WDing remains the same. Get the latest Disco they can afford. A new D4 will offer slightly better reliability and comfort than an older car. But of course ALL vehicles have a degree of unreliability. Just ask the manager at Mt Dare who routinely does the breakdown rescues in the Simpson. He's flat bedded them all and has a story or two. (If you're lucky enough to have a new LR or Toyota etc and unlucky enough that it stops, the warranty should cover remote rescue even in the sticks). Of course this would NEVER happen in a Landy!!! Hooroo...
