    Cargo Barrier for the D3

Any recommendations and pricing on D3 cargo barriers?

I'm looking to do some camping in Robe with the LROCV over the cup weekend and at the moment am looking to take the trailer at the moment as I won't be able to put the gear in the back safely as it will stack above the seat level.

Thinking that it might be sensible to invest in a barrier instead of using the trailer.

Not sure how often I'll use it but it should be easy enough to onsell if it doesn't get the use. Anyone know of a 2nd hand one for sale?

Purchased mine from Mitchel Bros in Sydney with hitch, think about $400 from memory. Fairly easy to fit & very easy to remove when not required.

How do the barriers connect at the top? Looks like the bottom connection is at the tie down points but top isn't so obvious to me.

I purchased a LR cargo barrier a few weeks ago, I needed it quickly as I was about to do some long drives, with a lot of gear and my children, so it was a must have. If I had had more time (or better planning) I would have considered one from 4 x 4 intellegence or from the LR OEM supplier Hayman Reece, or another vendor as the LR one was very pricey and the labour charge was high. I have not seen the 4x4 Intellegence barrier, but having looked at their other products before they make good products so second time around I would definately consider them.

In the Oct Overlander 4WD mag, Robert Pepper gives you the answer in his handy Disco 3 Project article. ( Hayman Reece: www.haymanreece.com.au )

I had a (top) half barrier in mine and it was perfect.

Ashes, the trim is removed to fit them. They are designed in a way that ensures they don't interfere with airbags.

I'll have a look at the mag. The one that seems readily available is a Tradesman which is distributed by Autosafe I think. Look like it mounts to the tie down points near the back of the middle row and then to the rear somewhere. Pricing is somewhere between $450 and $695.. I know which end of the scale I'll be looking at.

It just so happens that TRADESMAN used my D3 for the prototype years ago. It was great. I would recommend it. And their racks are great. Good blokes too.

Two bars from the barrier to the rear of the roof crosmember & bolted there. No interference with the air bags. No holes through trim/lining either.

I've ordered one through Simon at 4x4 intelligence. Should arrive next week which will give me time to install it next weekend and do a test load of the car before the trip the following weekend. Sounds like the roof mount part is fiddly but DIY dooable. Will try to remember to take some pics of the install.
