Parts Replaced Under New Car Warranty

    Hey guys,
Thought I would pass a bit of info on about the warranty coverage of items replaced under your new car warranty. I had my sunroof assembly replaced about 6 months before the end of the new car warranty due to cracking arms. 9 months later noticed the same thing was happening again and informed the dealer who lodged the warranty claim which was rejected. I rang LRA who tell me that any parts replaced under new car warranty are not covered after the new car warranty expires and you have to rely on the goodwill of land rover (12 month parts warranty doesnt apply apparently). They are going to resubmit my claim and get back to me so I hope they come to the party as its a $2000 part + labour.

Anyway, this may or may not be common knowledge (wasn't to me) but is something you may want to keep in mind if you are getting warranty work done towards the end of the new car warranty.

Yes, sounds about right. We're in automation; if we replace a part within warranty period, the ongoing warranty on it is what ever was remaining on the original part.

If we replace parts outside of warranty, we warrant those works for 3 months.

Sounds like your second claim is not about warranty, but for defective goods or goods not fit for the purpose.

warrenty on workmanship is 1-3 months warrenty on defective OEM manufactured parts is 12 months. IF poor workmanship cuased a part to fail then its a failure under the workmanship guidelines.

Nice part about that is that no dealership supervisor is going to admit to poor workmanship keep an mp3 recorder running while you talk to him and you might be pleasantly surprised at the box that he will put LRA into.

Yeah, defective goods is the line I took with LRA. There are quite a few people on disco.co.uk who have had the same problem with sunroof assemblies so it isnt an isolated issue.

I recon that might get you into more trouble than would save you in repair costs. Generally speaking, it is illegal to record conversations without someone's consent unless you have the authority to do so.

Taking detailed notes on the other hand while the conversation is fresh in your mind is useful.

In terms of replacing the same part, is there an onus on the dealer to fix a continually reported fault or failure outside the warranty period?

The example I have is a crank case sensor that looks like it has been replaced or investigated a number of times on my car but still continues to issue faults?

Well the area manager has rejected my claim again (this is what I was told by one of the customer service assistants) and if i want to take it further I can put it in writting and send it to LRA. They wont give me any other numbers I can call to speak to someone higher up They are also trying to say that a roof mounted DVD player may be contributing to the problem which I believe is a load of rubbish, especially when it isnt an isolated problem and many others with a D3 sunroof have the same issue. Will have to look at my options and consider drafting a letter I think.

Write your letter to LR Customer Assistance
    PO Box 2214
    North Ryde NSW 1670

    Their phone number is 1800 625 645.

    email is enquiries@landrovercustomers.com.au

Remind them of the implied warranty provisions of the Trade Practices Act 1987.

But be gentle. I find it's always better to suggest than to demand.
