On my second D3, first one did 168000 K's the new one is MY05 and now 40000 k's, no major issues with either, my MY05 did the Canning Stock Route in comfort!! will be going to the High Country (Vic) shortly, I have complete confidence in these vehicles.

Would I buy another?......yes if my retirement wasn't so close!

As said the vehicle should be under warranty.
Check the vacuum air line (TDV6 only) open the connection next to the booster and tap the end onto your finger. There are plenty with oil outside the VIN for the recall.
If buying privately an inspection will give a list of issues for you to get the price down.
I would suggest getting an Allianz extended warranty as repairs can get pricey later on (must be bought before factory warranty expires) it is good insurance.
Get a service done at a dealers and get them to check everything. Others from Victoria will have a good idea of who is good.
    Enjoy the Permagrin.

DS can post as many complaints and negatives as he likes provided they do not turn into frothing, unreasonable rants.

Even then we might let it slide as those can be quite amusing, as long as there's no personal abuse. This forum should reflect the whole spectrum of ownerships and we don't want it turning into the sort of place where anyone with a negative opinion of the vehicle is shouted down. We'd all be the poorer for learning if that was the case.

Thanks everyone for your advice - has been very helpful and will give us a few things to look out for.

Unfortunately there don't seem to be too many 2009 plated D3's in Melb area - would be great to be able to get one that is near new!

Gee the only way I would think to get one of those (2009 plated) would be to buy a demo/loaner from a dealer...

Trivett in Sydney I think are selling a few at the mo...

    Hey guys,

We've been looking at a couple of 2006 TDV6 D3s - the kms are usually getting up around 100K. We are worried about the potential cost hit if something significant goes wrong (especially with the suspension and/or electronics).

Has anyone out there done some serious kms in a D3? What should we expect?

Is there a good place in Melbourne that can do a detailed inspection on D3s?

    thanks

MLR tell me some of their customers are up past 240,000km.

The D3 in general is reliable and relatively problem-free. However, it can be expensive if things go wrong, like all advanced vehicles.

I recommend asking Ritter Automotive to check the vehicle out for you. But before that one of the Melbourne members here may be able to run their eye over it and see if there is anything clearly amiss and save the trouble of a more detailed inspection.
