Do these "extended warranty" policies only apply to new vehicles (original owner) or are they available for used vehicles (subsequent owners) assuming the vehicle is still within it's original factory warranty period ?

I am pretty sure as long as it in warranty and has been serviced you can purchase the Allianz one. Ring and ask.
Makes sense they would put up the price. I have almost claimed that in two years. :o
I am surprised they are not paying the dealers less. They get paid more by Allianz than LR for warranty repairs.:o

That is correct I bought my 06 SE V6 Petrol from a toyota dealer and still got the warranty offered to me by The original dealer as I updated the details of the vehicle to me being the owner. Well they had to update the details as with only four months left of original warranty I had two claims.
I'm on D3 number three and things WILL start to go wrong just outside wrnty expiry - in my experience. Then you will pay BIG bucks to LR. They wash their hands of your car post-wrnty (disappointing but true). So if you are the type who likes peace of mind then pay for an ext wrnty. If you chance it don't grumble when you get BIG$$$ bills when something goes wrong (like when I needed a new transfer case just outside wrnty period). Take in to account the replacement cost if items on a D3 - a computer, air suspension section, gearbox etc WILL cost a lot. LR charge like a wounded bull for labour! (I'll be getting a D4 asap)
And if it were so comprehensive, then why are there so many insurers offering packages that extend it?? Your limited experience has no bearing on what I said.
No statute would place liability on the manufacturer for wear and tear once a product has been bought by a consumer. No government would ever consider doing so. All such legislation will cover is fair protection for the consumer against poor workmanship during the manufacturing process and faulty parts where they cause the consumer loss. To do otherwise would be idiocy.
The T/F case issue started with a faint winding/whirring sound which was progressively getting louder. I took it to a LR workshop three times and they confirmed it was the T/F case. I suggested that it should last a lifetime and asked LR Head Office to contribute towards the significant replacement cost even though I was just out of WRNTY. After MUCH arm twisting they agreed to pay half parts. I didn't argue any more with that and the replacement fixed the issue.
They would not give me the case and said they would send it to LR for an inspection. That was the last I heard of it.
They're great vehicles that I've had forever but given they can't often be fixed on the roadside anymore, I've become much more comfortable with a newer model with a WRNTY (luckily I can afford it at the moment - phew)

BTW...extended warranties are a much sort after additional revenue stream by dealers...have you been to Hardly Normal or Great Blokes electrical lately...extended warranties are offered there on stuff costing as little as $100... the fact is that the stealer is pocketing often over 50% of the premium cost.
The vehicle manufacturers have screwed dealer margins down so much on new vehicles that servicing/finance/warranties/trade in margins etc are now the major profit streams. A former workmate took a 36 month lease on a Commodore recently ...nothing flash... the dealer margin -because it was a lease company deal, was all of $75.

I bet the fella with the engine failure (thread 'New engine for 2007 SE TDV6 D3') was happy to have a wrnty :clap2:
