We bought 3 years extended when we purchased the car. I read the PDD cover to cover & asked around. It covers everything the new car Warranty does & seems to have a good rep. It was Allainz.
We got it because we intend to keep the car for 6-7 years & I wanted it covered for most of that time.
Won't know for 3 years if it was worth it but I figured it would not be any cheaper in 3 years time so bought it with the car.

From my (limited & tarnished) experience I would say yes for new car if supplied by manufacturer, no for second hand car.
I fought for 6 months with extended warranty supplier on 2nd hand commodore when transmission started playing up. At the time they would only cover the costs of parts if assessor could prove that the fault was existing when car was built :eek: 4 years and 85,000km's earlier! Wouldn't cover the costs of labour to remove and re-install transmission, or disassembly and reassembly of the transmission.
In the end the 2k that was being quoted for the labour put me off the whole process, went down the local wrecker and picked up 2nd hand transmission and installed myself.
No such issues with Allianz, as has been said it depends on who supplies the warranty and waht is in the PDS.
It is difficult enough getting Holden to fix under warranty sometimes. :angel:
how much did you pay for your extended warranty? my factory warranty for the D3 is up in Nov this year. i enquired yesterday at Southern Cross in Toowoomba. they informed me the extended warranty has just gone up and will cost me $3590 for extra years. it is with Alliance.

When I recently signed up for a new Defender I asked about extended warranty and was told I can take that up so long as it is before the 3 years runs out - cost $1700
I decided I would wait a while, BUT... I assumed that the extended warranty would be an extension of the first 3 years warranty by LR Australia - if you see what I mean.
From what this thread is saying that it is not an extension of LR warranty but a third party warranty by "someone else".
When I pick the Defender up I must clarify this with the dealer.

I read the Alliance PDS a while ago and found too many get out clauses. Basically said if they didn't want payout they didn't have to.:angel:
That is costly for such a poor product.
I am sure that Allianz will put the price of theirs up given the amount of claims they have had. I concider the current price a bargain.
If you remember teh FFRR has a five year warranty from LR, even with that the last two years were with an insurance company LR just paid the premium.
Don't forget that S71 of the Trade Practices Act 1974 enshrines 'Implied Warranty' provisions. Common Law has held that these may extend up to ten years from new.
This has to be worth a try!
Would anyone offer me a renewal and an extention to that renual of warranty on my '95 defender TDI with 190,000km? There has to be some one surely! Drive-train only option?
