Thread: Rear Drawers for D3

Hi Stevecor,
I have seen & used the Balck Widow versions, nice build good quality but heavy & well built.
Expensive yes too, & they dont like making alterations when requested.

I make my own, the finish is not great but they're strong, light and cheap ;-)

I've had Black Widow for years, can't break em, can't fault em
But they are pricey and heavy

I'm thinking of removing the back row seats, storeing stuff where they fold into and making a drawer set to go on top.

I removed the last row of seats, made a bolt in frame to go on the seat mounts and fitted a Boab roller drawer system with six Gomo removable boxes so for me it is easier to pack each box in the house/shed and carry out, and then when camping or Motelling, you can grab the relevant box and take it to the camp cooking area or into the motel.
My main reason was for convenience, not to mention the price difference, the other fitted drawer systems do look better but are not as convenient in this regard, my system did have a small rattle when fitted but have two ratchet straps to hold it all firm now with no rattle even over bad corrugations as there is a 80 litre WAECO on top of the Boab that also rolls out on the top deck.
At one stage I had my two large 100amp/hr AGM batteries mounted up top and the fridge/freezer fully loaded while travelling thousands of kays of corrugations and not a sound or movement out of it, even while enthusiastic driving. Have now shifted the batteries down for better handling and the drop down fridge slide I fitted took up more room.
Under the drawers where the seats were there is a large area accessible to store the heavier recovery gear/hydraulic jack/spares etc.

I have a set of the OL (Dolium) drawers with the 6 gomo boxes AND the optional separate sliding top (for fridge etc) for sale in ADELAIDE - custom fited for the D3. They are mounted on a carpeted board that bolts directly into the LR tie down points.

It's been to Darwin and back and a few other trips since I built it and I'm pretty happy with the way it's worked. I have made the tie downs for the fridge out of steel strap held down with turnbuckles and it works well.

Thanks for the replies, I have looked at the Black Widow drawers but the weight of the drawers puts me off. Has anyone got any feedback on the Tanami drawers.
