    LLAMS D3 (06) into a RRS (07)

    Hi Forumites,
Does the LLAMS unit from an (06) D3 fit straight into an (07) RRS or are they different? Thanks in anticipation.

Just be sure to recalibrate it prior to using any of the height options as suspension faults are likely to occur, or at least cause extended height messages for no apparent reason.

    Hi Graeme/ Garrycol,
When installing the LLAMS into the D3 there was a very clear and detailed and might I say excellent step by step procedure for removing the interior, what had to be cut, where the wires ran, the pitfalls etc, is there a similar procedure for the RRS seeing the interior is slightly different?

Rich kindly produced the D3 detailed fitting instructions when he fitted a kit to his D3. I watched a Davis Performance Landy employee fit the initial test kit to an 06 RRS and the panels to access the suspension ecu seemed to be about the same. Nothing has to be cut.

What options are there to mount the switch other than on the side of the steering column if its not occupied?

All the panels - while they may look different are basically the same on the RRS so installing the module is exactly the same (I used stick on velcro dots to hold my module onto the side of the ECU high up under the dash.

The control unit is a different matter as the centre console is completely different to the D3. In my view there is basically no where to install it there.

I looked at the spare space above the headlight light switch (too much hassle I think), the space at the rear of the over head console (too much hassle and extending the wiring would be needed) and the large kick panel under the steering wheel (not easy to access the controls).

Following the lead of someone else I installed mine on the steering column - left side (where the round moulding is) under the indicator stalk. It was not easy to do (some of the foam needs to come out of the steering column) and while the result is ok the installation could have been better. You cannot see the control from the drivers seat but you can feel it - switch down it -20 up is +2- etc.

So have a long hard think about where you going to put the controller and consider the work involved. The module is easy.

Garry, can you recall how much space is behind your switch?

I'm thinking of putting a 3-pin plug on the back of the switch like the 4-pin on the other end but wonder if the extra switch depth would cause problems. The current 4-pin plug will be replaced by a 3-pin version soon anyway so the lead could be fitted from either end (and either way) rather than currently having to always feed the wire through from the switch end. It wouldn't make a significant difference when fitting to your position but may make fitting easier for console fitments in Discos where there's plenty of clearance. A current 4-pin lead will still fit a 3-pin module so compatibility would be maintained.

I cannot recall - except that the area is full of foam and that Landrover made a simple panel around the steering column more complex than it needs to be.

I suspect there would be the space you want, if you take a bit more foam out - though there is a metal stiffener in there somewhere.

The other issue with that position is that you cannot see the switch - not such an issue for me as LLAMs is fully down when I am on the road and fully up when offroad but if someone is wanting to use the full facilities of LLAMs they will need to peer around the steering wheel which has safety issues.
