    Range Rover Sport 2005

    Hi,
I have a good friend that wants to buy a a 2005 range rover sport, and asked for advice.
Is it a good year, what engine to go for, what problems?
Or is there a better year for similar money?
    Thanks in advance!

You might want to ask this in the RRS section which is grouped in with the Discoverys for some reason.

I would be going for the TDV6 and as 2005 is the first year of productions, improvements were made with each new MY so later is better but you pay more.

    It's 95% Disco3 so that's why they're grouped together.

I knew someone would say that, however using that logic lets group Disco and Range Rover Classic together as im fairly sure the underneaths of certain older discos are 98% Range Rover Classic

Also the new RRS is more than 5% different to the discovery last time i checked maybe even 95% different haha so that excuse doesnt really work anymore.

Thirdly, when people that dont think a RRS is a Discovery go to post a question about a RRS it will end up in the wrong spot 95% of the time

Maybe a note at the start of the RRS thread saying "there are certain similaritys between older RRS and the Disco 3's so please also search there aswell" would work.

    Basically like Garry said,
07MY saw the engine anciliaries upgraded from euro 3 to euro 4 emissions, if you can call that an upgrade.
Generally 07MY is more reliable, however the oil pump would be its Achilles heel. It appears to be made from a weaker alloy for 07-09MY and it can stress fracture around where the timing belt tensioner is held on. It then snaps off and destroys the engine. Updated pump is available but it's a task to get it on!
In terms of which engine to go for, if I were to buy again, it'd be a TDV8, but the TDV6 is still a very good engine with plenty of pulling power and fabulous fuel economy for such a heavy rig.
08MY saw changes to the interior colour scheme and diagonal stitching on the door trims, there could be other changes.
09MY had some exterior changes - clear indicators and body colour lower strip on the tailgate.
I have an 08MY TDV6 and am very happy with it. Great car. Would buy another one if something should happen to it.

So and this is about the only forums that groups them (RR.net and the UK sites have different sections or sites)- they are different and as shown by the number of new posters who logically think they should be in the RR section not the Disco section.

I ask questions about my RRS and often get responses from D3 people (and offered in good faith) that is wrong - likewise I have on occasion offered advice to a D3 question based on my RRS experience and it is wrong.

There should be a separate RRS section under RR broken down into a L320 and a L949 sections.

Maybe site Admin should poll RRS owners where the section should exist.

This is off topic - sorry
