    Spare tyre for off-roading?

What do RRS off roaders do about a decent spare tyre? Does a full size tyre that is mounted in the standard location interfere with ground clearance and departure angle?

The 20s that came on my RRS are 10 inches wide (there seem to be a lot that are 9.5?) with 275-wide tyres, and the spare was a 19 x 8.5J with a 255 wide tyre so I picked up a couple of full sized spares.

I hadn't actually thought about the rear clearance beforehand. There's no doubt it hangs down more (an extra 20mm I guess!), but in the scheme of things I'd have to say it's negligible. Certainly nowhere near as low as the factory tow bar if you happen to have that on, and no lower than a long range tank.

For the sake of access when touring I'm still thinking I'll have the second spare - or more to the point the first spare - on the roof.

There are ways to add some clearance when needed.

Are there any issues fitting a full-size spare in the standard place? Enough room?

I think I know from your signature what you're referring to...

Do you have a website with options and prices?

3 options come to mind - a diagnostic tool capable of altering suspension heights, multi-hole rods and my Llams kits, each with their own benefits.

Nah diameter's only an issue if you're going more than a bit oversize (can't remember the max that'll fit sorry)

    I have Cooper Zeon LTZ's 285/60 R18 on my '06 RRS.
The spare needs to be more or less flat in order get it wound up into place under the vehicle. No problem really. I'd have to call the RACV to give me a hand if I got a flat anyway - the scissor jack gave up long ago - so they could air up the spare for me at the same time.
Then there's the tow bar hitch...yeah, that won't slot into position while the spare is inflated either. I normally get it to lock in by pushing it into place with my trolley jack.

Cool, thanks - did you have to remove any shielding to fit it in?

So by my dodgy maths that's a shade under 31.5 inches outer diameter, which on a 20 inch rim is somewhere between a 275/50 and 275/55, or a 265/55 if any of those exist, or perhaps even a 255/55/20 - just a shade smaller, and if your rim is the right width?
