That brochure was obviously prepared after the TDV8 has been dropped in the "Series 2". I guess in everyday driving there is little between the TDV8 and the TDV6 except for sound (a tin full of rocks vs a super cool throaty sound) and no rubber band cam belt on the TDV8 to have to worry about, and I dont think there are crank failures in the TDV8.Quote:

Yes, you can get an auxiliary tank for an RRS. Its the same aux.'Fuel' tank thats available for Discovery's it can be either Petrol or Diesel. This information might help those wanting to do a long trip.
Metro my V8 D4 gets 18-20 L/100 on a trip 12-14L/100. Most of my driving is Metro stop start and my D4 is heavy. 400km would be about my maximum range day to day on the standard tank but I have a 92l auxiliary as well so usually see 900km which is acceptable. A long range tank on the RRS would mean no spare, a wheel carrier or spare in the load area, I haven't seen a wheel carrier on a RRS but I suppose it is possible (but ugly), spare in the load area isn't practical for me as I need it for tools and other gear.
The service intervals on the tdv8 started at 12,000km but ended up going to 24,000km, with the same motor and oil. Go figure. Mine has been serviced every 10,000km from new. The tdv8 has 640Nm of torque which is amazing, and goes to 700Nm with a standard remap. I’ve never felt short with the standard tune.
The tdv8 has no timing belts and never heard of a crank case/big end bearing failure. Retiring the EGR seems to help these motors keep their pipes clean. The most known issue with these motors is turbo failure. I’m at 265,000km and runs beautiful. I think 10k oil changes, induction cleaner and EGR mod all help a lot.
The 4.2sc is said to be one of the best motors put into a RR. I think the 5.0 na would also be pretty good.
It sounds like the TD V8 is the beast to get - pity there are so few of them about.
I guess the downside is the cost of rego - >$1,100+ here in QLD - and the fuel economy.
Interestingly enough, Wikipedia website shows the TD V8 has better fuel economy than the TD V6!!

But I guess you have to be nuts to believe everything on Wiki - but 11.1l/100km is better than my 3.0l Nissan Patrol!
I think I am leaning towards the RRS, I don't need 7 seats and I really would like some comfort, refinement, performance and style now after driving around in Nissan's for so long.
Now to find one for a reasonable price.....

Why do you think the fuel economy will be bad - your own research shows it is good unless you have been looking at the petrol V8 which is not so good. $1100 for a years rego and 3rd party sounds about right for any RRS - I pay that for my TDv6.Quote:

Rego for my RRS TDV8 in Vic is $668 and my wife's BMW X5 TD6 is $337. Her's has concessional rego though. I don't think I'll move to Qld in that case.
Fuel economy for my car is in the 9's without towing and 14-15 L/100 when towing our van. More than happy with that.
Is that just the rego component or the full rego cost with 3rd party insurance. If it is the full thing then maybe we all should move to Vic.Quote:
