Just for fun - Tassie Trip

I’m in Tassie for a short break , on an adventure .
today was Devonport to Port Arthur via the Highland Lakes - through ice n snow n creek crossings ,dirt roads !
All handled with no dramas - although the traction control has certainly had a workout , on tar mostly .
at present camped at Port Arthur , visiting the site tomorrow.

    Tassie Trip

I'm watching with interest as we're off in January. I'm keen to have a look at Montezuma falls and as many other tracks as safe when driving without backup.

Did you go in and out via the eastern route or did you traverse the northern route as well?

Short update , have traveled across the tiers “ why are we following a snow plough it’s December ?”
Ah , that would be the snow and ice dear ..........about a foot of snow across the top !

Went down to Port Arthur , spent the day roaming about the site ,so much history .
camped in port Arthur - don’t go when a school group is using the caravan park !

Oh , and I’ve never seen so many motorhomes !

So so the next adventure was to Freycint , camped at “ Friendly beach “ and it rained - and I mean rained for 15 hrs straight , moved the camper to higher ground ,cameo out at 2 am and there was 2.5 inches of water everywhere .
    no , my camper doesn’t leak !
The natives are very friendly .
Woke up and it was beautiful again , have I mentioned Tassie is beautiful
packed up - dry ! And left for the national park and wineglass bay , worth the walk .

again , so many tourists and motorhomes .
Have moved on to to St Hellen’s and will cross Tassie again tomorrow to Devonport and home .

    My tips ,
if you do Port Arthur , do the cruises - purchase a ‘leave pass ‘ re-entry to Port Arthur for free in the next 2 yrs . Cost $10 , if you don’t use it consider it a donation.
the campsites - non powered at Freycinyt in the NP are not suitable for campers or caravans , rooftop tent or tent /swags ok .

Friendly Beach is free to camp as part of entry ticket , drop toilets .

Didnt access the powered sites - all booked out in advance ......again motorhomes !
Do the walk to wineglass bay lookout it’s worth it !

Bay day of Fires is nice but the scenery on the drive up is spectacular, whites beaches , blue ocean - bit cold tho .
