The car is parked outside and there has been a reasonable but not excessive amount of rain.

Had that terrible bang on closing the tailgate. The strut that I replaced 2 years ago popped off and was bone dry with some visible corrosion.

My fault for being lazy and not checking it. I hope I haven't broken the mount on the strut but will see in daylight
