One Piece Tailgate - strange issues

2012 RRS TDV6 3.0 - All of a sudden my one piece tailgate is having open/close issues. It will open using the tailgate button, FOB button or dash button but only about 6" then it stops. Ah Height adjustment I hear you say. Well if I manually move it to full open and press and hold the close switch I hear no chime and it makes no difference. To add to this pressing the close button doesn't lower the tailgate either. However, I have tested the switch and the wiring to the hatch control box and its all working.

Other things of note - Fault Codes C2005-13, C2005-31 and C2006-13 related to the Right and Left actuator, which I assume is the electric lift struts. Could both lift struts have failed? Possibly but why doesn't the close button now do anything at all?

Checked and oiled the latch mechanism incase it wasn't opening properly. Are there any micro switches in that mechanism? If I raise the tailgate manually to any height. Close the latch with a screwdriver, then release it with the FOB open button, the latch springs open and the hatch raises the same 6". I have checked all the connectors and given them a spray of contact cleaner, checked and cleaned the 25A engine bay fuse. Disconnected the battery waited a minute then reconnected it. Assuming that would give a full reset. Also cleared the fault codes in case that was related.

All of which has made no difference.

I have Googled and searched but there doesn't appear to be any specifics related to the one piece tailgate, its all related to the split tailgate and doesn't address my problem that I can find.

I'm out of ideas. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions gratefully accepted.

    Cheers

Hi Tombie, Did you send the link? I've not found one from you, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

Tombie, any chance of that link to help solve my issue or wasn't the info it contained any use after you reviewed it?

    Cheers

After no help from anyone. Even the supposed Gurus are apparently MIA. I thought a little update would be helpful for another member looking for answers in the future.

I obtained a tailgate locking control box. This also controls the struts. Installing it made zero difference. Possibly the replacement box has the same fault or the cause lies elsewhere. I suspect elsewhere but I have no proof at this stage.

So after weeks of waiting for some forum help I'm no better off with a solution. Onwards and upwards I guess I'm on my own.

I bloody answered you. Check your PMs

It’s a forum, it’s enthusiast based - we are NOT at your bec and call. And in my case there’s a lot of priorities well and truly in front of forum posting.

There are also these people called “professionals” like sparkies and LR specialists - you could seek help before the parts cannon and likely offset your cost.

Ironically - if you searched on Google for your problem - one of the top [emojiOne Piece Tailgate - strange issuesOne Piece Tailgate - strange issues[emoji[emoji6One Piece Tailgate - strange issuesOne Piece Tailgate - strange issues]One Piece Tailgate - strange issuesOne Piece Tailgate - strange issues][emoji[emoji6One Piece Tailgate - strange issuesOne Piece Tailgate - strange issues]One Piece Tailgate - strange issues[emoji6One Piece Tailgate - strange issuesOne Piece Tailgate - strange issues]]][emojiOne Piece Tailgate - strange issuesOne Piece Tailgate - strange issues[emoji[emoji6One Piece Tailgate - strange issuesOne Piece Tailgate - strange issues]One Piece Tailgate - strange issuesOne Piece Tailgate - strange issues][emoji[emoji6One Piece Tailgate - strange issuesOne Piece Tailgate - strange issues]One Piece Tailgate - strange issuesOne Piece Tailgate - strange issues]] results is a link to the same file.

    Mate,

Sorry, I did check my messages several times before sending you the message on the 7th, after you said you would send the link on the 2nd. I get its a forum hence waiting 5 days before even asking, as well as figuring I was looking in the wrong place for your reply.

As it is I am one of those "professionals" you mentioned and work with Auto Electrics day in day out. However this has me stumped, hence asking the forum for some help.

I have googled the **** out of this problem and found nothing at all helpful.

In any case thank you for the link, I will have a run through the flow chart and see if I can sort it.

Again, apologies if I put the pressure on.

Turns out the problem was the RHS electric strut. My understanding is that an over current situation, by the faulty strut, caused the tailgate control module to shut down. This resulted in no response to the close button or anything else, leading to a situation where the clues to the fault were misleading. Especially the way the tailgate would lift a small amount then stop, suggesting the struts were fine. But not so.

As a precaution I have also replaced the LHS strut.
