After talking it over with my wife, I've decided against it, as much as I'd love one. She isn't against me having it. I am.

I'm looking to retire in the next 6 months so spending $57k on a car - especially a Rangie - is not a good idea.

I wouldn't be able to afford the servicing costs, let alone the repairs and depreciation. I can't write it off as a business expense.

$57k is under the Luxury Car Tax so the business expense is not much of an issue other than servicing costs and loan repayments (if you go that path).

Buy the RRS... sell the house and buy a cheaper one down here near Canberra so you can help me keep my P38A running

I may be in the market for an RRS after Christmas as well... it will be 12 months since I bought this P38A and it's CHP loan (business/tax deduction) will be paid out so I may be looking for a newer addition to the "fleet". That should give you enough time to become as proficient on the RRS as you are on the P38A

... but if you have decided to not go down the RRS path, that is a loss to the RRS owners on this site.

The usual response to that would be that they (retirement and a Rangie) are interdependent rather than mutually exclusive.

However I understand where you are coming from. Given those circumstances would probably be my decision too.
